ChoklitRain does IMHO have a valid point. Whether it's a schmuck move or not (it is), it definitely doesn't do wonders for trying to convince anyone that you think Penn is great in its own right (it is).

Why would I even apply to Penn to begin with if I didn't think that the entire institution was awesome though? I was considering applying to CAS for a long time and chose finance over math/econ in the long run.

Putting Wharton 2013 is entirely pretentious.

Holy crap! I don't see anything wrong with it. And everyone who goes to Harvard and MIT who writes Cambridge to make it seem like they are downplaying their accomplishments, actually does the opposite. When I give advice to people about Wharton, I think it's better for them to know that I was also a Wharton applicant. Yes, everyone on this website should know that Wharton is a part of Penn so I don't see how it's a problem.

I am willing to bet that Wharton's prestige will decrease somewhat due to the financial crisis.

Then Millhouse will switch his/her location to Penn 2013. Just kidding!

ChoklitRain (Hogwarts 2013) + Millhouse (Wharton 2013) = ChoklitHouse (Hogwharton 2013)

Yay for harmony!

I prefer Hoghouse

Penn, Wharton, whatevs...Real ballers live in Bangalore...panty wars are scheduled for Saturday (no, seriously...google 'pink chaddi')

I find that at about five years after graduating, no one cares about where you went to school anymore, they care about the prestige of your job, what car you have and what part of town you live in, how hot your date is and where you vacation? St. Tropez or the Hamptons. So get ready for the prestige shift. With a few exceptions college prestige only matters in college, last few years of high school and maybe for a few years after. After this people will stop asking your parents where their son went to college and simply ask what you do for a living.

Kind of funny that post is coming from someone in Dubai, of all places...

Thats why almost every single adult friend your parents or you know, you are aware of where they went to college. Its an important piece of information of who someone is, along with their job, interests ect. Its part of that social puzzle, and does act as an identifier for intellect, elitism or both. Maybe if you live in a poor rural area no one cares, but in the world ivy leaguers and other top school grads inhabit it is omnipresent.
