Pensacola Christian College article--scary

I don’t feel bad for people who there of their own free will. People whose parents make them go, yes.

Where do people that graduate from unaccredited schools even WORK? Who wants to hire them?

I got this from Wikipedia:

“In the absence of being able to have physical contact, a fad has developed among dating students on campus where couples stare deeply into each other’s eyes. This practice by students is variously called “eye kissing”, or “optical intercourse” and is jokingly called “making eye babies.” However, this activity is discouraged by the administration.”

How would you even punish someone for looking at another person too intently?

Well, this is not all true. I currently attend Pensacola Christian College and have spoken to hundreds of guys and never gotten in trouble. We are deffinitely allowed to talk to guys and girls do not have chaprones to go off campus. I have my own car there and go off campus by myself all the time. Girls can even go to the beach whenever. You should try getting your facts straight maybe by visiting us at the college.

Guys, don’t look in the mirror!!!

Why would anyone go to a college based around religion?

After reading severl posts from other users i decided to answer some f the questions that were posted… ( i am a former student 08’ graphic design grad and because of my on campus job i was privy to many happenings which plagued our campus)
One such question was “i bet the school is packed with homeschoolers” the answer is yes about 75-80 percent of the student body was homeschooled ( most of those students used Abeka circulum which is published and created by PCC)
another question is " Dont these kids chhose to go there on their own"
the answer to that question is NO … most students are asked to go by their parents or pastors. some students are promised that if they do a year at PCC then the parents will pay for them to go where they want to go
PCC administrators will tell you that transfering credits is Never a problem so prospective students believe that one year wont hurt thrm, when in reality, all of the credits are either meaninless or simply electives to most other colleges.
other students have just been engrained to go to PCC since they were little as was the case with me. i never visited other colleges and since i was homechooled i did not have a wide variety of friends who were looking at other colleges.

One of the issues with PCC is that their students are treated as prisioners and not as adults. The administration and student life assume that given the opportunity a person will do the wrong thing and thus sin. Many of their main rules pertain to opposite gender interaction and media. the oposite gender rules are utterly rediculous and well as sexist. Guys are given much more freedom than girls. for example men are aloowed to go off campus with female grad students, but undergrad female students are only allowed to go to church and the commons with their male grad significant other. this is not the only double standard. Men students (of any age) are permitted to go off campus alone, but female students (untill the age of 23 ) are to be in the company of two other girls at all times and five if they are going to the beach one of thoes five must be a floor leader in order to keep the girls from wearing inappropriate swim suits on the beach. The act of “telling on each other” is not only encoraged a student may be punnished if he refuses to turn in his fellow student. the year after i graduated some 25 students were kicked out because they refused to turn in another student who had confided in his friends about his homosexuality. During my time as a student three of my friends were kicked out because of “supposed touching” the couple which was set to graduate was kicked out along with the girl’s roommate. the third roommate had been very angry with the other two girls (for some unknown reason) and lied about them to student life stating that the roommate witnessed the couple " holding hands in church" all three students were kicked out and yet they did nothing wrong. One of the things which still bothered me to this day was the unwritten rule that after the semester ended students were supposed to wait untill the “left the greater pensacola area” to stop for food, shop, or change into other clothes (the final day the guys wore ties and the girls hose and skirts). When going to the airport students were not permitted to ride in taxis with mixed groups or talk to members of the opposite gender untill they flew out of the greater pensacola airport. inorder that this rule be followed student life sent RAs to the airport to stand by the security checkpoints to ensure that students followed this rule. thses are just some of the things that are the reason why PCC is the way it is… One thing that PCC will never tell you is rate of graduation … Most colleges will say something like 45% of freshman graduate or 60% of students who began here graduate here… PCC’s rate of graduation is less than 15% my freshaman class had about 2300 students my graduating class was 462… that alone should say something to administration but it doesnt… Pcc administrators will just say that thoes students were in rebellion or not in the will of God or simply not christians.

another area that PCC strictly governs is media. there is one TV per dorm building and one in the campus restaurant. this is on from 6:05 pm-6:25 pm and a student life personall usually a floorleader ( this is what i did–heavens i watched commercials i better pray) will flip a sweich to cut service during commercials… i could still watch them and turned them back on when the news ressumed. they also aired the world series games, but never the super bowl and the TV was never on after 11 or on Sunday. Students were discouraged from going off campus on superbowll sunday to watch the game and the administration made sure that the service went extra long to prevent this. floorleaders were asked to monitor the parking lot and main gate to make sure noone sunck out early ( being caught would have been an automatic expullsion-- i let a few students go you know who you are…) Students are not permitted to have movies in any form or video games rated above E students are not allowed acess to the internet news sites or other forms of medis such as youtube or facebook. students are not permitted to have wireless cards on their laptops or cell phones. ( they didnt have the IPhone or Droid when i was in College) if the administration found out that a student broke any of these rules he was immediately expelled no questions asked. During ellection year the college will promote heavily the opponent they want to win and encourage students to vote in the city of Pensacola hoping to swing the county vote (which usually turns escambia county red) during the Obama/Mcain campaign i was told by students that ALL Obama paraphenilia was prohibited and extra security measures were taken to ensure that no student or students promoted any one other than Mccain.

Please i urge all potential students to carefully weigh the pros and cons of PCC please visit ask questions really probing questions visit classes and talk to students… ask for a copy of the handbook, ask for stats, Do not go during college days because the student body as already been coached on how to act and what not to say least they get in trouble… really understand what this college is asking you to do as a student and remeber if you cant take the rules please seek other colleges its not worth the risk

I went to PCC. I graduated in May 2011. They are now accredited as of Spring 2012 with TRACS. It was a great opportunity to go there, but it is not for everyone. In my experience, their academics are better than the other schools I have attended (4 other schools). The academics are definitely better than most schools where my friends have gone. You should visit and see if you like it. The rules have relaxed a lot during the last 5 years. Pray about it.

So I just had to be apart of the discussion. so my story of PCC is this:
Fresh out of highschool (Actually Homeschooled) felt it was God leading me there, Which I still believe that He sent me there. I was a Pharisee just to be honest when I went there, but that is where God broke me of my Pharisee ways!

I learn some very important things at PCC so I do not regret going. I learned that people can be enslaved to an idea their whole lives and never ever experience anything more, for that would be a sin! But the thing about it is this, does God want a people who are mindlessly obeying Him because that is the “right thing to do” or does He want a people who actually learn of Him, experience Him… and choose to love and obey.

I began to understand another very important thing at PCC: You cannot tell a person above the age of… Im gonna say 13or so depending on maturity… What there going to do every step, every breath without that person resenting you either openly or inwardly (or if they are completely saturated in the idea that the person has some kind of power from GOd over them they may not feel resentment)
the thing is when a person starts to mature they need to be given freedoms. Everybody knows that pk’s are always stereotyped the “bad” kids… and that is because their parents ruled over them so strictly!

At PCC there is no room for maturity and growth as an adult. You are treated as a one of their children. A person can be stuck in the child vs Adult stage all their life, and others that rule over them may approve of that. But it is just not right!

I am not here to down anyone, it is your life, and your choice where you go to college and what you do. Like I said I do not regret going to PCC, Go where you wanna go Be an adult who enjoys the choices you make!

Rich, think before you speak.

“But Judge Cashman explained that he is more concerned that Hulett receive sex offender treatment as rehabilitation. But under Department of Corrections classification, Hulett is considered a low-risk for re-offense so he does not qualify for in-prison treatment. So the judge sentenced him to just 60 days in prison and then Hulett must complete sex treatment when he gets out or face a possible life sentence.”

The Judge then changed the sentence to 3-10 years once the DoC permitted the use of in-prison treatment. At the time there was no minimum sentence required, thus what the judge did was legal. The Judge sentenced Hulett in 2006 and Hulett was released in 2011. That is five years, not the two you say.

I can not find a single site that has any mention of a court case involving Walmart. The case you have provided sounds a lot like a case of imminent domain and the ability of government to choose if housing or a shopping center should be placed there. Without details being able to distinguish if it was necessary use of government powers is impossible. Although I will side on the side of the government because rarely does local government do things that are completely unnecessary.

This is a public forum and there was plenty of fair and unfair commentary. The job of the reader is to know what to read and what not to. If you don’t like that people will spout their opinions on what they have read and know about, don’t read forums like these.

I am a former PCC student that graduated over 20 years ago. I have never returned. I went there to disappear from a bad situation to go to what appeared to be the land of Oz and ended up in the Land of Odd. I went from Hollywood Blvd. to Nun-Convent Blvd. Yea I was warned, no sex, no kissing, no holding hands and you are required to wear dresses to a lot of places. I was 22 and had already had plenty of “action”. A pastor wrote a nice little letter for me on how I was ready to “serve the church in new ways” and sent it with my application.
I got there on the Friday before Labor Day, and my Sr. roommate was already there. I got lucky with a great roommate. She loved to spend a lot of time at the beach. I wasn’t even unpacked and she hauled me to the beach in her car. We felt the same on many things. She was great at “blending in”. She gave me all her formal gowns when she graduated - I already had plenty, but most were “too sexy to be seen by the men of PCC”
Getting all dolled up and going to a play or opera was something I had done a few times while escorting few rich people with my false ID to make them look good. It seemed odd that I was at similar events again.
Although I am musical, I took no music other than choir. I loved Mrs. Crawford. I still loved to practice music. The college has several music practice studios there. You could play rock and roll (classical style) on a piano and many were too ignorant to notice, but if a person was caught listening to a song with a drum beat or electric guitar - that person was considered evil and punished.
There was an underlying lack of maturity with most of the students. Yea most were smart, but immature on real life issues, and judgmental on life experience. A former hooker is just as much a child of God as a virgin, a pastor, or a staff member at PCC AND should be treated the same. Oddly, I had a suite-mate who asked what I thought of her new boyfriend. (I had only seen them together - never met him). I had nothing to go on except that I could tell he was blessed with his plumbing. A few days later I was escorted to the Discipline Committee for my ungodly conversation with my 18 year old suite-mate. Really? I had a 17 year old cousin that just had her 2nd child a few months before. Someone’s plumbing got her pregnant (that’s life).
Yes, there where a lot of “ABeka” kids there. They were old enough to drive, vote, and get their own birth control. Many of them lacked basic color coordination skills, they also lacked of basic hair, skin, hygine and makeup techniques. PCC seemed to prey on that lack of life experience.
Turning 23 while I was there gave me adult privleges. No bed times, no daily room inspections, and I could go off campus all by myself - how generous!
I graduated.
I married. I was once asked if I wanted to stop by on our way to Disney World. I said “Please NO!”
I moved on.
I recently widowed. Death does some strange things to you. It causes you to reflect on what is really important.
I have no desire to see the manupulation, guilt, and lack of trust and lack of honesty I felt at PCC ever again.
I need to head to the store now. I don’t think God will mind if I go to the store in a pair of shorts.

Ok, so my brother had finally had enough of this college a few years ago. And surprisingly it wasn’t because of the weird rules. He said the rules were “survivable” but it was an accumulation of half-truths, doctrine, and bad staff. The half truths and lies were. When he first went there they claimed that they were getting acredited and the person he talked to ensured us that by the time he graduated his program (mechanical engineering) would be accredited. By about his second year the truth came out. It would be TWENTY years before their engineering would be accredited!!! They tried to make it better by saying "oh but its ok, he can get jobs anyways, companies near here will accept you because they trust us… … … yeah…right. So he leaves, but they had also assured us that the credits would transfer. Turns out only a few of his BASIC classes would transfer because TTU would not accept their classes because their classes were not up to par with their program. So he instead had to go to MTSU for one year (which did accept a few of his classes) in order to get some of the basic classes out of the way to go on with his degree. This I believe is his 5th year in college and its costing a fortune because…next blow, he lost all of his scholarships when signed on to PCC. Doctrine. We are Christians and we hold to the Bible. But there are so many problems with PCC i wont delve into most of them, however, I will sum it up with this. We are Baptist and we do NOT agree with much of their doctrine, yet the leaders of our church (which I will be leaving soon to attend a new church) are blind to it, the ideas that disagree with THEM, they turn a blind eye to because they have some infatuation with this college. The last thing ill go into before delving into some of the crazy weird rules is that his teachers, were pretty bad. He had a few good ones, but for the most part they were distant, unhelpful, and even sometimes rude to students. They were not allowed to keep quizzes and test, ok, but then they had exams on the test and test on the quizzes and they could only study them IN CLASS. If the professor forget them, then oh well, they couldn’t study that day. Some of the weird rules. members of the opposite sex couldn’t make contact of ANY kind, not even shaking hands. They had to stay 12 inches (or something like that) apart. Heres the laugh, they were proud of their new rule that male and female could now walk on the same sidewalks…wow. You couldn’t walk on ANY of the grass. You had to give a report of where you were going when you left campus and you had to go in groups and could not leave with members of the opposite sex. My brother worked for the security and he said that he learned that faculty would go off campus to search for PCC students breaking the rules, i.e. meeting with members of hte opposite sex or going to unapproved places. Cars have the right away, and he has a story of the president speeding through a crowd people heading to chapel and honking. The floor leaders would go through and search your room for contraband (items not allowed) and you could not complain about the school. If you did you were reprimanded. Oh yeah, and if you miss a service you have to sit in a room skipping classes, and watch it on the TV. You have to sing along and pray along. Also they would have special things they do sometimes, I cant remember exactly what they were called, but it was a big issue because on my brothers last exam it was the only time the professor was letting him study his quizzes and they were forced to go to some ceremony so he was unable to study. There was fun in it tho, unlike rumors they did play TONS of games and watch TONS of movies, the catch, no they weren’t allowed, all were illegal and all were pirated lol. He said that part, the having to sneak and the forming of factions like that was fun. Oh, and making eye babies is a thing and i saw many instances of it…it is…strange XD

@IgraduatedinMay Sorry, but a couple of items: One, what other schools are we talking about? It does not appear to a very high threshold of academic quality to which you make comparison?

Second, and more to the point–and I am paraphrasing here–regional accreditation is the most preferred form of accreditation – it is the most recognized and accepted type of accreditation and would be considered the gold standard for accreditation. In fact, many colleges and universities ONLY recognize regional accreditation when considering transfer credits and admissions.

Here is a subjective ranking of accreditation status presuming that the institution only has one type of accreditation:

Regional Accreditation (Undergraduate or Graduate)
ABHE (Undergraduate) or ATS (Graduate)
DETC (Undergraduate or Graduate)
TRACS (Undergraduate or Graduate)

Moreover, since TRACS only received CHEA recognition in 2001, it lacks both the history and reputation of the alternatives and profoundly less thought of than all the other alternatives. In other words, within mainstream academia it’s not viewed with too much seriousness or validity.

This is an ancient thread.

May be ancient, but wow is this a read. I’d encourage anyone who stumbles here to read it.
