"People are more civilized now"

<p>But the government wasn't established by the average colonial - the founding fathers were the intellectual elite of their day. Yes, some of them could comprehend the Federalist Papers. Some Americans today can understand the Riemann hypothesis. Neither of them are necessarily average.</p>

<p>I agree that today's stupidity is just sad, but I doubt that things were much better in the Revolutionary era.</p>

<p>It wasn't established by the average colonial, but I don't think it could've been established without their support. The average modern American takes everything that they treasured for granted.</p>
