People to People vs. National Youth Leadership Forum

okay.
i got nominated both for People to People Medical Program and National Youth Leadership Forum in Medicine.
i am currently a junior, and i do not know which one to go.
national youth leadership thing seems more organized, but people to people has been supported by the presidents for longgggg time..
anyone has been to these programs??
please help me out!!!!

Honestly... both are useless in terms of helping you with the admissions process.

I attended a NYLF Law session. It was a fun week, made a lot of friends I still keep in touch with, and it put me terribly behind school. If you can afford to go (the $5k + missing time from school, if your session was during school like mine), go and get a glimpse of a possible future career. NYLF helped convinced me that law it what I want to do. Just don't expect it to hep during the admissions process (or so I'm told).

I think either will be a positive experience.

PTP was cool. You should do it.

Honestly, People to People was more like a vacation without your parents. While it was fun and interesting to tour around Europe, I didn't feel like it had any academic value. You're basically a tourist.

I did the Int'l Diplomacy one in DC/NYC.

I was invited to both but chose to do Brown Summer Session. But I'd rather do People to People. It's longer, you're not forced on a 12 hour schedule, and you're going out of the country. It may not have much academic value, but you're learning on a social and global level.

If your family can afford the (overpriced) fee, then they're fun experiences, and traveling and meeting new people are always awesome! But, in terms of college admissions, they're not selective programs.

Both basically demonstrate that you can afford the programs.

Mr. Yankee, which year did you do it? I did it the first year (2005, I believe), and I had a great time.
Anyway, OP: I wouldn't say it really set me apart in the admissions game, but it did give me a talking point for interviews. Overall, I’d say it’s a great experience and a lot of fun (if finances are not too much of a problem), but I don’t think it (either one, that is) will make an application.

People to People once wrote a letter inviting a middle school boy on a trip.

He had been dead for eleven years ..

I went to NYLF Med in 2003. It was a great experience. Does it help you with college admission? Probably not. However it gives you a fantastic glimpse inside the medical field. You'll learn what it takes to get into med school, visit a med school, and go to other medical facilities. You'll listen to various speakers who are highly regarded in their fields. And you'll meet a ton of awesome people. You'll get to have some fun too

Vist the NYLF message boards at http://community.nylf.org/eve if you have more in depth questions about the program
