Pepperdine or UCSB at the same price tag?

So I got into both Pepperdine and UCSB for the fall term.

At Pepperdine, I got a Dean's Scholarship for $22k a year, which would make it around $27k a year to go to school there.

I got into the Honors Program at UCSB, and it's going to cost me about $26k a year. I would get priority registration for classes and more one on one time with professors, both things which wouldn't be problems at a private school like Pepperdine anyways.

So basically, where do you guys think I should go if they'll both cost me about the same?

Thanks in advance

I'd pick UCSB simply because I wouldn't want the Christian association or environment.

However I'd pick Pepperdine, simply because I'm an LA native and would want access to the city whenever I wanted(assuming I would have a car while at Pepperdine).

Those campuses certaily have different reputations and "feels". Different sizes. Different living situations. Have you visited? That might settle it. My D really liked Pepp's travel abroad program. Nice that cost doesn't enter into it!

I've visited Pepperdine, I'm visiting UCSB April 4th, and Pepperdine again April 10th.

Which one do you think has a better academic reputation for undergrad?

I don't know. Somebody posted a thread about their opinions on this recently*. Probably depends on the major. But I don't think it will be a big enough difference to make up for a bad "fit".

UCSB is ranked higher according to US News and honestly they are VERY different environments. UCSB laid back and partyish BUT with serious academics as well. Pretty liberal campus and very liberal city. Pepperdine very conservative campus and very liberal city. Personally this would be a no brainer for me-UCSB. But consider this, if you do well at UCSB you might get some financial assistance in form of scholarship (esp b/c you are in the honors college) and that would reduce your costs. Whereas at Pepperdine, you might be tapped out of scholarship money. If you do decide on Pepperdine MAKE CERTAIN that scholarship is guaranteed for all 4 yrs!

Visiting will be the key. Where do you think you'll fit in? UCSB is going to give you a much broader array of students to interact with. I'd only go to Pepperdine if you felt that it really was a PERFECT fit. Not fitting in at Pepperdine would make it hell.
