From a review of some of the recent data from CMU, I noted that less than 25% of the undergrad's that were accepted actually enrolled at CMU. It was pretty consitent over all of the departments. I would have thought it would have been much higher.

Does that indicate that students are dissapointed in the financial aid package ?

Or, it could be that most students, given a choice, are attending other institutions - meaning CMU is not there first pick?

Low yield ?

It looks like the primary cause of the low yield is the overall poor financial aid that CMU offers to their applicates.

Students needing aid may want to focus more on the peer schools as they seem to do much better.

CMU is the safety school for many students applying to the Ivies, MIT, Caltech, etc. If they are accepted by any of them, they will turn down CMU.

Yep, CMU is either not the first pick, or is too expensive for these students.
