Perfect SAT Score (well...not really)

Here's my situation (note this is NOT a omg I scored 2300 should I retake thread):

On the June SAT, I scored 800 V, 800 M, and 690 W.

Sure, the 800's in V and M look great, but the writing was apparently not my forte (have yet to see my score report).

A question: for the class of 2007, do colleges (top tier Ivy types) take Writing into account? On the old SAT scale, I have a perfect score; but if one takes into account my Writing score, it is only a mediocre Ivy applicant score.

I am retaking for my Writing score but any clarifications would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Do not retake. DO NOT RETAKE. A 2290 is absolutely fine, and the writing score is not taken into account much at all.

Do not worry about it....please....

And 2290 is not a mediocre score for even an Ivy applicant, it is very competitive.

I personally think that it will take at least one more year before colleges take the writing section serious enough to be any sort of real factor, plus you have an old SAT perfect score so def don't retake.

You should definately retake the 2290. I don't think community colleges will even accept such a low score. Even a 2400 will make you a reach for most schools.

you MUST retake. people with 2400 are rejected from ivies and top colleges. for better chances of acceptance, retake and get a composite 2400

lol don't retake you got a perfect score in 2 sections and on the other section you didn't you don't even get a percentile... do not retake

W.T.F., you got a 2290? Are you stupid or something? Definately retake, no ivy league will accept such a terrible score

lol

write a kickbutt essay or two

I agree with everybody else. You absolutely, in the name of Jesus, have to retake this damned test. A 2290 will only garner you a job in Namibia or Siberia. Look at me, I got a 2110, and I'm pouring wine for WASPs like Bush.

Yeah, I don't think you should retake it. Look up the colleges you want to go to and see what their policy on the writing section is (some schools count it, while some don't). And a 690 is respectable, in my opinion. Just remember that colleges don't take only the SATs in account (extracurriculars, etc.)

Colleges look at each induvidual section seperately. They NEVER say, "this kid got a 2350 while another kid got a 2330 so obviously the kid with a 2350 must be better." The writing section is very insignificant in general compared to the math and verbal sections (Finding errors in sentences isn't nearly as important as your ability to analyze passages which is a more important skill for college). Good job on your scores and don't retake at all, work on the rest of your app.

Harvard will be counting the Writing as much as the other sections for the Class of 2011. Not sure what the other schools are doing.

Yeah, try applying to community college with that score.

Although your score is phenomenal I really think something like the following looks much better:

Math: 790
Reading: 780
Writing:730

I think that score would look better and its almost(10 point diff.) the same one you have but 600s DO look bad for Ivy League no matter what anyone here tries to tell you.

I am sure you could get something like that with some practice on your writing. This is just my personal opinion.

Ohh, I totally see how a 2290 is soo much different. ;)

Um ok. I actually get what you're trying to say, but honestly, you're fine. Don't sweat it.

And, on a sidenote, I <3 FIREFOX.

why not just write a really good essay . . . it could probably balance out the score better.

Btw, what was your essay score, b/c if you did well on this and then as said before, write a strong essay, then you'll prove it wasn't a fluke.

It turns out that my essay was a 10 and I had -5 on the MC portion.

The point is not about the retake; in fact, I might not even retake the SAT.

I'm just honestly asking about how different colleges view the Writing portion.
