Are there many opportunities for a non-music major to play in string ensembles, orchestras??

I would like to know more information on this topic as well. My intended major is outside of music, but I certainly want to continue participating in orchestra and symphony.

Can anyone give more information on the number of players in the orchestra/symphony and what the current repertoire is? I would also like to know how the student turnout is for the concerts.

Woody, what instrument do you play?

the symphony orchestra has about 60 members, auditions are at the beginning of the year, been playing large works: beethoven 8 and Sibelius 2, currently playing a student composition, concerts are in crouse (awesome), and student turnout is good.

Jourayalism- Are the symphony orchestra auditions open to non-music majors?

PS D - not me - plays violin

Woody,

I called the Setnor School of Music the other day and the lady was very helpful concerning information on the symphony orchestra. She told me there are anywhere between 50-100 people in a given semester. It varies because sometimes students study abroad or have conflicts in a certain semester, but membership is always strong. It is a highly regarded program on campus, which sounds good. I also play the violin.

That's great, thanks!!

yeah, I think it is open to non-music majors.
