Perkins & Subsidized Loans

How do I pay back the Perkins Loan & Subsidized Loans ASAP?

I withdrawed for the school year and will be returning next year. If I'm correct, I'll accue interest on the loaned money unless I pay them back?

I received a 4k deposit from my school, which is the amount I loaned from these two loans.

This site should give you the info you need…[National Student Loan Data System for Students](http://www.nslds.ed.gov/nslds_SA/)

My financial aid adviser is offering me no help on this. I looked at the link you gave me (loan and grant details) but it says I’m still enrolled. & it says I’ve been disbursed an amount.

If I subtract the college refund (deposited into my account) it’s 4,377. On my student account it says I owe 3, 337.88

It’s an extra 1,039.12 they deposited into my account??

And then if I take the pell grant (deposited so far is $163) and direct stafford subsidized loan of (so far is $1,167), comes to a total of $1,330… which is more than the “extra” they gave back to me…

I’m so confused. When I first told Financial Aid office I was going to withdraw, they told me they would calculate and then mail me information about my balance due to the college (by the end of 30 days). Instead, I get an email saying my financial aid offer was revised; a due date; an email from housing asking for payment that doesn’t even match the student portal’s demand of housing payment, and a LATE FEE for some reason >> no due date, just “future” marked… T___T I’m calling the college again tomorrow, but seriously the ‘financial aid adviser’ on the phone has been no help.

Does your account at the school say you owe the school $3337.88? It could be that you still owe that to the school because your aid was reduced because of your withdrawal. The amount of pell was probably reduced because you withdrew (if you withdraw certain federal aid is taken back based on what % of the semester you completed). Depending on your school’s rules and your date of withdrawal you may still have to pay for most of your charges. At my daughter’s school you can drop classes in the first 2 weeks and not have to pay for them. If you drop them after 2 weeks you have to pay for them in full. Have you checked your school’s policy on this? The first thing you need to do is understand if you still owe money to the school. Do not repay the loans until you are sure you do not need to use the money to pay the school what you owe them.

The breakdown of the 3,337.88 comes from: school’s health insurance (it was mandatory and no refunds even if I withdrew), orientation fee, direct deposit refund, meal plan, housing, and late payment fee (no idea why I was charged for that cause the due date is in the “future”). It says nothing about the government loans I took out or how this withdrawal for the year will affect me in the future.—

It’s weird because on my financial aid reward page, it says I still have an award… Cal grant, the UC college grant, AC grant, pell grant.

Should I contact the lender for the direct stafford subsidized loan and tell them I’ve withdrawn for the year (planning to return next year)? What about the pell grant?

I’m just confused because the numbers $ aren’t adding up. And no one I contact [financial aid / accounts/billing] is being clear besides “pay this $3,337.88” to whatever question I ask about future aid, and about loans. >_< Thank you for taking time to respond!

Are you close enough geographically to go in and sit down with someone in the financial aid office and bursars office and have them go through this with you? Preferably with an adult, like a parent, that can help you understand it all. Sometimes being there in person can be helpful. There is not much help we can give you here as we don’t know your exact situation and don’t have all the details showing what you have been charged and what, if any, aid was disbursed to you.

The stafford lender should be a direct loan all staffords went to direct lending this year. Does the loan actually show as having been disbursed on your school account?

The school should include any amount of Pell that you have to repay in their calculations, so you don’t have to worry about that being a separate bill. It should be included in the $3337, but verify that when you sit down with the bursar. Definitely try to make a face to face appointment to make sure you understand this. I’m not sure what you mean about affecting your future aid, I think you need to be more specific in framing your question to them. Or you may be able to find your answer to that here or on the website of whatever aid program you’re concerned about.
