Permanent Resident

For how long do you have to stay in the US to be eligible to apply for green card?

long enough to understand that you can't do it that way.

I dont want to do anything I was just curious. Because certain professions that I want to pursue require me to be either a US citizen or Permanent resident.

If you apply to a certain profession that requires that, and if you fit the job, I don't see why they wouldn't get you a green-card somehow.

There are 3 ways to get a green card: family-sponsored (if your spouse, parents, siblings or children are US citizens or your spouse or parents are permanent residents), employment-sponsored and through the green card lottery.

yeah..get a good permanent job from somewhere and getting a green card shouldn't be that much of a fuss...

After you get a good permanent job and your employer promises to sponsor you, USCIS makes you wait indefinitely, during which time you can't leave the country probably for any reason. The approval comes in within like a year or two. The actual card comes out god-knows-when.

Don't count on getting to stay in the US after graduation unless you develop some unique skills an employer will sponsor you for. They will need to say they can't find an American to do the job so you can't be just another college grad. You will have to sign when getting your visa that you will leave the US upon graduation.

Make a baby during college so that he could sponser you.

LOL Abhi, looking at your posts I often ask myself why got rejected at all those colleges!

Now now that is tempting..... ;)

Wait...how old do you have to be for your...er spouse to sponsor you?

I dunno. But still the idea is great! :D

On a serious note, I think 18 years. Not sure though.

Darn, that would be weeks after I'd have to send my deposit :(

I don't think that there's any age limit to be eligible for a green card. The marriage needs to be legal, so you may need to satisfy some sort of age limit, but that could be easily bypassed.
