Personal attention at a large school

If I go to a BIG school, I mean 40,000 students, how can I make sure I get individualized attention? Would I still be able to get to know my professors? Could I still see them often with questions and help?

Advice? Suggestions? How can I make sure I get good attention?

You have to make an effort to stand out from the crowd. Be proactive about it; otherwise, you'll never be noticed.

Most professors will have office hours. They'll never really notice you in a huge lecture, but if you stop by office hours you can get to know them, ask questions, whatever.

I go to a relatively big school (24,000 students) and after you get through the freshman huge lectures classes- history, science, math- all of my classes have been pretty small (no more than 40 people, usually around 25). Even in those big lectures, if you go to office hours, you can talk to your professor there. Or, some of those classes might have GTAs that teach subsections and you can at least get to know them (since GTAs are often the ones who grade your stuff). Also, even in some of those large classes, the teacher sometimes asks questions and if you sit near the front, they might get to know you that way as well.

office hours. and ask questions during lecture. they'll remember your name. but after you get into your major, the classes get smaller.

honors college helps if you get in....

Can TA's write reccomendations for transfers? Do all large lecture classes have TA's and sub-sections?

Usually,large lecture classes have TA's and sub-sections.
TA's LOR won't help you a lot.

I go to Ohio State, and although I took a lecture with 80 students in it this quarter, up until that, my largest class size was 25. One of my classes had four students. It depends somewhat upon your major (harder in science and engineering) and your willingness to go to office hours, but in general, I've found that the professors here are very accessible and excited to talk to students.
