I am very passionate about biology/life sciences and want to express my passion in my common app essay but cannot find a good way to do that.

This implies you don’t have some unique angle to tell about it. If not, then pick another topic. Otherwise, it’ll be just another of hundreds (thousands?) of semi-identical essays about passion for biology and why I want to be a doctor, yada, yada, yada… Zzzzzz…
OP, the best way to show interest in something you want to study is to recount some experience thatyou can link to your love of the subject. For example, you could start off by talking about how your found a pond filled with frog s and saw a lot of eggs. You then decided to return to the pond every day for two weeks to see when the frog spawn would hatch. You proceed to discuss the miracle of life, etc… All the while, you relate your story back to how you were affected by this process, and how it shaped your life, or thoughts, or what you discovered about yourself. Etc…
That’s a pretty terrible exampl,e but hopefully you have a better idea. They don’t just want you to say Hi, I am Tyuntu and I like biology because…
The goal of the essay is for adcoms to learn about who you are. At the end of the essay, they should say “now I understand who this person is, and I like him.”
