Personal Opinions on Unis/Colleges in the UK, and Ireland

Hello.
I have applied to numerous schools, which I love, in the UK and the Republic of Ireland. Although I have done extensive research, can anyone provide me with personal opinions/experiences for: University of St. Andrews, University of Edinburgh, University of Glasgow, University of Aberdeen, Trinity College (Dublin), National University of Ireland, Galway and National University of Ireland, Cork? I am an American. Thank you very much!

Can anyone give any input???

if you are looking for a top university, then disconsider Aberdeen and all of the Irish ones except for Trinity College Dublin

Have you though of University College Dublin? It's not as good as Trinity College but is better than the other two Irish ones you mentioned. In Scotland I would go for Edinburgh.

Thank you.

I've heard good things about St. Andrews (which apparently has some history of admitting top American students, also, so you might want to take them seriously!), but I think Edinburgh would be a great choice in Scotland. Can't say much about Irish universities, though the only one I've heard of is Trinity.

Thank you so much!

Smash96, what is wrong with Aberdeen? I know it is not the top Scottish university, but I have heard quite good things about it.

The NUIs I applied to as safeties.

I've heard good things from Edinburgh.

Edinburgh > St Andrews. Edinburgh is a great university city while St Andrews is rural. St Andrews is overrated and overhyped.

What makes St. Andrews overrated? In what ways does it not measure up to Edinburgh???

I'd like to know more about St. Andrews as well. Edinburgh is too large for me and I love the idea of a smaller rural town environment. Has anyone heard from St. Andrews yet?

Jane2, do you know how long after we submit our applications we hear from St. Andrews?? No one seems to know.

Edinburgh is ranked 11th in the UK while St Andrews is 20 something. St Andrews would be equivalent to a Rochester while Edinburgh would be a Swathmore or an Amherst

Thank you. Does anyone have any input on the others...U. of Aberdeen, U. of Glasgow, Trinity College Dublin, NUI Galway, and NUI Cork???

Trinity is the best of the 3 followed by Cork and then Galway. Go for Trinity if you can.

Thanks again. You are extremely helpful.

Accepted to St. Andrews in Scotland and Trinity in Ireland. Both letters came within a month. Does anyone know any Americans who attend Trinity? It seems like there are more Americans at St. Andrews.
