Hi all,
Who have you guys requested a personal recommendation from?
I’m just trying to get a feel of if it should be family, friend, EC-related person, etc.
Thanks!

My kid asked EC-related people. I think friends/family would seem inherently biased, but others might disagree.
Yeah I would say to not go with family or friends for sure. I asked my sports coach and student council director. Use people that can vouch for a specific talent or offer a different perspective than a family member could. Best of luck!
I actually asked my former Social Studies teacher to do mine, since I recently transferred to a new school and my teachers don’t really know me >.<. I asked my piano teacher to do my Special interests rec. Choose someone who knows you well, but not friends or family members as mentioned above.
My daughter asked her music teacher for one and our pastor as my family has spent a lot of time camping and hiking with him. He’s also academic and teaches college courses and has known her since she was a baby.
Thanks so much for all of the insight!
Going off topic here, but I’m not sure if it’s worth an independent thread:
I’ve been told not to be concerned with a lack of postcards regarding ECs etc. – if these postcards are only sent out to some applicants, don’t they inherently have some value? Why would schools send out postcards to some applicants and not others? Does the popularity of this practice vary by activity?
Also, do you think that former teachers/EC advisors are acceptable? The Gateway recommendation form notes that it should be someone that the applicant sees regularly, but I’m not sure if that stipulation is strictly enforced.
bump pls
Yes, both former and current teachers, EC advisors, coaches, mentors are acceptable.
