Okay, so I'm giving my teachers the recommendation forms next week and I have a little problem.

I always planned on giving the recommendation forms to my history teacher, algebra teacher, and band instructor. However, lately I have been thinking about it and I may have changed my mind. For the optional form, I was thinking of having last year's history teacher fill out the form. I've know him for about a year and a half, but I have known my band instructor for two and a half. I feel that my history teacher knows me better academically. He is also the coach of the quiz bowl team and he is helping me study for the test to qualify for the state bee. He knows how smart I am, but I don't feel that my band instructor does.

On the other hand, my band instructor knows how well I can play the saxophone so I feel that it would be nice to have someone other than a regular academic teacher fill out the form. I don't feel that he knows me academically or as a person very well, but I'm sure he would write me a good letter. I've been practicing with him lately for my solo and ensemble pieces for the competition coming up, and I feel like I've been doing pretty well and he's noticing that.

So, my question is: Who should write the "other" recommendation form?

Thanks.

The personal recommendation form has NOTHING to do with how well you play a saxohpone or fill in bubbles on a test. It is completely based off your PERSONALITY. Look at the sheet and see who will fill in the bubbles the best - who thinks you are very energetic? Whom have you shown your personal qualities to? Who do you feel knows you extremely well? Do not take any type of ability or academics into this. It is all personal. Which teacher do you talk to the most? Who do you hang out with after school?

I just looked at the form and I definitely feel that my former history teacher knows me better.

I was actually considering having my bus driver do it. lol She knows me pretty well and I know she could answer all of those questions on the rec form.

oh no not the bus driver! haha well you could if he/she writes that he/shes a mentor or something, it might work.
but yes i agree with olivia. someone who knows you personally is better. if you have strong academic recs already, give in a personal one. the history teacher knows you as a strong student and person.. just clue him in a bit.

sorry, but i also have a question. My art teacher gave me an okay rec, (thats my hook) but wrote that I belong in the highest class the school has to offer. The boxes that she had to check though, were just all right.
My other teacher from last year (known me for 2 years) gave me an amazing rec (box checking-wise. he gave me all "few of the best I've ever seens"). he wrote some personal things as well...he also wrote that i'm good in art and other stuff.

can I maybe send in both (same school)? which one would benefit me more? I'm also sending in a strong art/writing/photography portfolio..
so...which rec should I send in?

sorry again jonathan for butting in.

Jonathan, you can always send in both. I'm getting multiple personal/EC recomendations, because I think it will offer the schools a broader spectrum of me as a person.
Olivia, are you quite sure? On some of my forms, it asked for a specific talent to be evaluated, so then it might matter some how good you are at whatever the recomender teaches you. Do you think even on those it doesn't really matter?

pretty, can I send in both if I have 2 sheets of the same form?
i have two personal rec forms from andover and I cant decide which teacher to tell to send it out

I think so. I believe they give you two sheets in case you want to send out two recomendations. However, if they're both on art, I would only do it if the teachers taught you very different aspects of art. Otherwise it might seem a little repetitive.

no they didnt give me two.
my cousin had one and decided not to apply and gave it to me before my packet arrived. both aren't on art. the second one just mentions that I'm good on art. He's kind of like a personal teacher from the past that taught computer things

I can't imagine that it would be a problem, unless they specifically say not to.
