Personal Statement for the UC Application

So I just sat down to write the 600 word personal statement for the UC application. I'm applying to Davis and Santa Cruz. I'm choosing the third personal statement prompt for my 600 word one, which is "is there anything you would like us to know about you or your academic record that you have not had the opportunity to describe elsewhere in this application?" I know what I'm going to write about, but I'm having a hard time getting started. I know I'm going to write about being sick junior year and being in the hospital at the beginning of Senior year, and I even have a thesis statement...i just don't know how I should go about writing an intro...

I guess im just looking for advice, any advice at all on the UC personal statements. How did you all go about writing yours?

Okay so I've written it and now I'm stressing because I'm in quite a pickle...at first I had 122 extra words, i went through and deleted some...and I still have 95 extra words! I'm at 695 and i dont know what to do!

You might find this web site helpful:<a href="https://www.ucgateways.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=content.showpage&MN=262&level1=4&level2=2&level3=0%5B/url%5D">https://www.ucgateways.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=content.showpage&MN=262&level1=4&level2=2&level3=0</a>
It tells you exactly what UC is looking for in your personal statement, and outlines the writing process, including revising.

English teacher(s) in your school should be a resource to help or so I have been told

Wow, thanks willsmom! That website is incredibly helpful and I recommend it to anyone who is writing the UC essays. It really helped me organize all of my ideas together into the essays.
