Personal Statement optional?

Curious about the RHIT personal statement - being optional, does that mean it can only help an applicant to submit one? How does its presence or absence impact the evaluation of the applicant?

I don’t know if it makes a major difference. Our daughter didn’t write one and was accepted. She didn’t have any significant issues that she felt needed to be explained.

RHIT has a relatively high acceptance rate and seems to focus primarily on objective criteria for admissions decisions. If an applicant’s stats are on the edge of (or below) the likely admit range for this school, subjective criteria like a strong personal statement will be more important.
