I hope this question doesn’t sound too stupid, because I might just be paranoid…

“We ask that you use this opportunity to tell us something more about yourself that would help us toward a sense of who you are, how you think, and what issues and ideas interest you most.”

Is this personal statement question about yourself just like the common app essay? I wrote an essay about a specific challenge that strongly impacted me, but the topic the way they state it above sounds far more broad, as though they want more than just the common app kind of essay.

I want this essay to focus on something that’s not mentioned already in my engineering statements, so the challenge I mentioned is about something different. It still tells a lot about me and how I think and all, but it sort of focuses on a different aspect of my personality.

I was worried about Brown looking for something different as well, so I'm working on a new essay for the Personal Statement. I really liked my common app essay, but it was more of a "one lesson I've learned" than something covering multiple aspects of who I am.

I think you could probably get away with a common app-type essay for Brown.. I'm just taking the approach of "better safe than sorry."

And, don't say one day! cringe These lovelies don't have to be submitted until 5 pm on Monday. XD

I still have the PLME statements...and I'm so tired of this, haha.

At the moment I'll use my common app-type essay. I guess writing another essay might be safer, though. It doesn't help that Brown has been closed like all week, and probably won't open until after the deadline. =( I could have called them.

Well, your personal challenge may help Brown toward a sense of who you are, how you think, etc. My essay was about a personal challenge, but was not limited to the personal challenge...

Where are you getting 5 AM from, Darth Raid3r?

And I just spoke with my friend who is also applying to Brown, and she said she wrote a new essay for Brown instead of using her common app essay as well.
