Personal statement?

I've heard that some college applications have a personal statement. What exactly is there and which colleges have it on their application, as ive been looking and have yet to see one

they are usually just statements about your life. You tell a little bit about your history like where you were born and stuff like that. I think it can also involve a specifc even and how it impacted your growth as a person. Pretty basic really. I didn't see any college's that wanted a personal statement. But I have done about four or so scholarships that needed one.

I believe that people usually mistakenly call the applicatoin essays personal statements.

I had a 'personal statement' on my application.

I pretty much just laid out that I have always had the desire to go to college and put the reason that I really wanted to attend their institution. In addition, I also wrote how their environment would give me the tools necessary to go on in life and be successful and what I would bring to their school.

Personal Statements usually ask you to write about yourself, who you are, reasons why you want to go to the school, talk about yourself and what you've been involved in.

A lot of times, colleges like it if you say things that will stand-out from the other applicants. You can say, "oh, I'm a great student, I participate in clubs, blah, blah, blah" but they want you to say unique things that make you stand out from other people.

This may include some lying or exaggeration if you don't have anything special to say like me. The way I see it, you're competing with thousands of others to get positions in that college, so as long as you're not lying about extra-curriculars, it's ok.

Other personal statements may ask what your career aspirations and dreams are and how you'll try to achieve them. Or others may ask why do you want to go to this particular college..

I prefer the "Tell me about yourself" one than the other ones.
