Stupid question: I am applying to a college that is asking me to write a personal statement.
Specifically, they are instructing students to "attach a statement that will allow the admissions committee to know you better. It is to be one page in length and on any topic that you choose."

Question One: I don't know how write a personal statement. Do I pick one of the other college app topics (such as "Discuss someone who has influenced your life" or "Choose an issue of importance to you")? Or do I just talk about myself (if thats the case, what do I specifically talk about? what is my central idea/thesis? How do I unite all the seemingly random facts together?)?

Question number two: Is one page in length double spaced or single spaced? I assume single spaced, but I'm not 100% sure.
Question Number three: I know I've heard that you should mention in your essay why you took AP classes, why you choose that major or college, any hardships, ect. How would I incorporate these into the essay? All these things seem a bit hard to fit into once central topic.

I would appreciate your guys' help. I am completely lost on how to write a "Personal Statement", so anything helps. Thanks guys!

Edit: Side question. Being that they don't give me the prompt, do I write my prompt at the top before I begin my essay, or should the topic just be so obvious in my essay that I don't list the prompt before the essay?
