Pet turtle in dorm

Hi I have a pet baby box turtle kept in a 10 gallon aquarium. Am I allowed to keep it in the dorms? I'm afraid to keep it at home because my mom doesn't know how to care for it.

And BTW are fish allowed?

i don't go to michigan, but i know that the school i want to go to, carleton, allows fish.

Fish tolerance was the dealbreaker for you, huh? haha

wtr, I don't know what our stance is on turtlekeeping, but even if it isn't allowed, you can get away with it. Just put a sheet over the tank when you bring it in and out of your room. RA's aren't going to be going in your room. Now, girbles and hamsters can become a problem. My buddies gf had a hamster get loose in the dorm and animal control got its hands on it and...put it down. Renegade turtles aren't as common, though.

actually, turtles can be ridiculously fast. i had mine outside so it could get some sun, and there was a little hole in its pen, and it took off. haven't seen it since, haha.

lol, I take that back then. Gotta be careful about closing the door when letting him out the tank.

haha, I have some common map turtles that I caught in the lake :o. They're really small and live underwater so I might actually bring them.. Just make sure the turtle doesn't smell, your roommate might get annoyed.

nah hes nice and clean. he wont be escaping either. hes a little guy (about 2 inches long) so he wont be able to climb out even if he was 12

wow, this has gotta be the most random question on the thread lol...

What people see in animals, I simply do not understand. I understand the individuals need companionship at times but the fact of the matter is all animals, besides humans, are of sub-human intellect. As a result, why people often times prefer to spend times with these animals is just baffling. I figure that especially at a dorm, where there are plenty of humans around, a person could always associate with other people.

I do not mean to offend anyone but I despise animals and just don't understand why people like to keep them as pets. I especially don't like dogs and cats. As a result, I hope that I never get a roommate who brings in a pet of every kind.

You should have gone to UMaryland- go Terrapins.

Splintercell, you are missing out on a lot of pleasure- I simply do not understand.

To each his own. I just think that animals are disgusting, especially the cleaning up after them, etc.

I prefer electronics instead. lol.

Okay- enjoy!

Vc08: wow, this has gotta be the most random question on the thread lol...

so true, but I have heard alot of pet questions lately...it is funny.

take ur turtle, and if you get caught & cant have him put him and some food in a box and send him home, haha, or have some one come pick him up. it probably wont be a problem just respect your roommate's wishes...

I like electronics too. But they're of sub-animal intelligence.

Well played.

i will keep a zoo

Kid I know had turtles last year...they survived the year in the dorm and have moved on to apartment life.

I actually read somewhere on umich's website that fish in fish tanks are allowed in dorms. I don't know about turtles, but I don't see where the difference lies if they're both in a water tank.
