Peter Stark Producing Program (MFA)

Found this program after doing a bit more research into graduate degrees in business/film. Can anyone offer any further details about this program?

From the admissions side of things- is there one thing they are looking for above all else? Is it hypercompetitive compared to other USC programs?

From the student experience side- has anyone been a part of it? Any good/bad things to report? What about job placement?

I'm looking to go into the business side of entertainment so it does sound right up my alley. I'd really love any and all information current, former, prospective students might have to share about it.

I'm also looking at the similar UCLA program, so comparisons are welcome/would be very helpful- and other school suggestions would be great too! It's not a very common graduate track, I'm finding, so options do seem somewhat limited.

Thanks in advance!

Well, I don’t know much about Stark but I’m a prospective undergrad SCA applicant. Like the other SCA programs, Stark is very competitive. They accept 25 people every year, I believe. I don’t know how many people apply though. It’s about as competitive as the Writing for Screen and TV BFA, which accepts 24 people.

People always ask what SCA is looking for but it’s really hard to say. I guess you just have to stand out from the rest of the applicant pool. Easier said than done, right?

Another thing to consider: USC has a joint Business/Cinematic Arts degree program that you may want to look into. I think there are a couple of applicants on this forum applying. If you post in the SCA thread one of the other prospective undergrads can probably give you some more info. :)

I believe it’s about 8 people for every 1 admitted

Those are some competitive odds! Thanks for the info. dreamupsidedown, I’m looking at the graduate level programs. I don’t think I’d be a competitive MBA applicant since I’m only going to be 1.5 yrs out of Undergrad at the time of application.

I did also notice that Annenberg offers a Masters in Communication- Entertainment Management that sounds like a fit, but really Stark is what I think sounds like the best match for my interests.
