Petition to the College of Arts and Sciences

Hi guys, I wanted to know your guys’ opinions on me getting DA. So I have a superscored 27 ACT and IU requires a 28 ACT. They require a 3.7 weighted GPA and I have a 3.6. I went through a hardship, my lung collapsed freshman year so that negatively affected my freshman year grades since I was out of school for more than a month. I ended up get a 3.0 freshman year. I’ve gotten 3.7+ gpa in both semesters of sophomore year and junior year. This year, senior year, I’ll be looking at a 4.5 gpa most likely. Do you think they will accept my petition?

No. You have to be above the criteria in 1 category, and you are below in both

Did you read the post? I have a reason for my lower gpa, I know people who were under both but they went through a hardship so IU reconsidered them because of the reason that lowered their gpa.

I read the post and this is what it says on the website. It says nothing about hardships. The best thing you can do is try to increase your ACT score, or take the SAT, and get as high of a GPA this semester as possible (if you actually get a 4.5 that would probably bring it up to a 3.7). You can apply until February 15, so just get the 4.5 this semester and get your ACT up 1 point and you will make it.

“NOTE: Admitted students who lack only one of the initial eligibility criteria may petition for the opportunity to apply for Direct Admission to the College by sending an email to coasinfo@indiana.edu or calling (812) 855-2403. Petitioning students should only be slightly lower on one criterion while exceeding the second component. Due to the highly competitive nature of College of Arts and Sciences Direct Admit scholarships, students who do not fully meet all Direct Admission criteria are typically not considered for freshmen funding. Students interested in petitioning for Direct Admission MUST do so before February 15th.”

Honestly, being a direct admit to the COAS or many of the schools at IU has little significance for your college career UNLESS you are eligible for a DA scholarship. Provided you complete the requirements while in the University division you will be admitted to the COAS any way. I wouldn’t sweat it.
