Petroleum Engineering BS

I Intend to pursue a Petroleum Engineering BS.
I have applied to some schools offering the degree, and I'm just look for some opinions on the schools themselves.

University of Kansas
West Virginia University
Texas Tech University
University of Oklahoma

Thanks in advance,
Sami

The University of Oklahoma has a very strong program although class sizes tend larger for those in the Pet E program. Every major company recruits its grads although the majority end up in Texas and Oklahoma. From what I understand, this is partially the result of many grads preferring to stay rather local since the majority of students in the Pet E program are from the two states. That being said, one of my friends has an internship in CA this summer with a supermajor so it’s not impossible to work out of the area. What more would you like to know about OU’s PetE?

Yo, thanks for the quick reply!
Can you tell me:
How selective the schools is for it’s program?
How is overall life at the area? (expenses, rent, safety)
And what is your opinion regarding the other schools?

Dont go to texas tech, we have enough PetE students here

Sami, all students start in either University College or the Honors College. OU doesn’t admit by major, and it’s not a competitive school if you have >3.0 and a 22+ ACT. As a result, a lot of students start in petroleum engineering, find that they either don’t like it or can’t handle the workload, and then switch majors.

Norman is a nice college town and it’s right outside of Oklahoma City. It’s one of the lowest cost of living areas in the country, and I’ve always felt safe around campus (and I’ve ridden my bike at 3AM outside of bars).

Can’t speak for other schools. I’d say that OU is most similar to the University of Kansas in terms of location, campus dynamics, and overall feel.

If you want me to elaborate on anything or have further questions, just ask.

Whenhen,
*I have a SAT score of 1830
*My GPA is 2.2 (deplorable I know), but I’m studying outside the US, coursework was more difficult.
*I took 4 AP courses. (And can get good expected grades from teachers)
*Planning on taking SAT2s.

What I’m asking is, If i can manage a 700+ on Physics and Math subject tests, Will that give me decent chances at the University of Oklahoma?
