Do petroleum engineers from the University of Kansas, get the same job oppurtunities after graduation as those from TAMU, UT Austin, LSU etc? Coz Kansas has some big international scholarships which make it attractive, at least for now...

undergraduate or graduate? And will you need a company to sponsor you for citizenship?

I’m not even sure I knew Kansas had a program. I think the opportunities one gets is a function of the work they put in, not the school they go to. That said, I would imagine a few more doors would be opened for you at one of the other schools.

Undergraduate. PetE has 100% placements, so I dont think that will be an issue, will it?

Do you have work authorization after graduation or will you need sponsorship?

Sponsorship

You might need to plan on getting your masters. From what I hear, getting sponsored with a BS degree (for Petroleum) is nearly impossible.

I do know a few UG in OU’s PetE that are being sponsored by their government or oil companies although I’d imagine the competition is extrodinarily intense. The thing about lesser known Pet E programs is that they don’t attract near the volume of recruiters, research dollars, industry talks, etc as other better known programs. On the other hand, the department may be more tight nit and the fewer opportunities easier to access because there are far fewer people in the program than at schools like A&M, UT, or OU.

If KU or another school is your only choice, go there. It’s still PetE.

No, I’ll be applying to all the big schools too, and I understand that I have a reasonably good chance of getting in. Can I work in Europe after getting my BS? Will I get a job?
