Pets at Rochester

Hi, everyone! I'm an accepted transfer student entering in January. :)
I know that, according to the official rules, students are allowed to have fish in a five gallon tank. However, I remember distinctly from my tour back in September that it is quite common for students to keep other small animals in their dorms. I have a mouse in an eight gallon tank. Will I run into problems if I take him with me?

I wouldn’t call it common.

Since having a pet is a violation of dorm rules, unless both your roommate and your RA are cool with it, there’s going to be problems. Worst case scenario—you could be asked to move out of the dorm.

I wouldn’t take your mouse to the dorm right away. (First of all, it’s presumptuous of you to assume that your roommie will be OK with it.) I’d wait and scope out attitudes first and maybe later bring it to campus if everyone is cool with it.

Be aware that rooms get inspected by housing over breaks–you’ll need to disassmble and remove the pet habitat over breaks. (e.g. spring break).
