PGA Tour + LIV Golf + DP World Tour all merge

So Tiger Woods turned down $700M up front to play for LIV Golf because he didn’t want to play for a Saudi backed golf entity…only to end up playing for a Saudi backed golf entity? That’s an expensive and bitter pill to swallow.

I don’t know all the facts but if I was a tour professional who stayed loyal to the PGA tour and turned down a ton of money I don’t think I’d be very happy right now.

I would be very unhappy. Worse, to be completely honest, I’d be really worried if I were one of those who called out the regime as part of their reason for turning them down. But money rules, I guess … and loyalty to those who stayed loyal is not expected, right?

Not surprising. People are predictable when money is involved.

Golf Twitter today was on :fire:!

People are dumbfounded and speechless.

It’s so shocking and as golf fans we feel betrayed. I can’t imagine how angry the pros on the tour have to feel right now.

Lots of reports that many PGA players are very unhappy. I’m not surprised about the merger because :moneybag:rules the day always.

I am surprised Monahan is staying on after the things he has said about the Saudis, and seemingly the Saudis/PIF leadership are ok with him staying in his leadership role. Let’s see if he lasts.

I’m headed to the U.S. Open next week. That should be a fun time.

I am sure they will equalize or improve the economics for some of the players that stayed with PGA. Let’s wait and see what terms of deal are. This is just a preliminary MOU I believe.

That would be tough to accomplish. Tiger was offered $700M and I believe Rory turned down $500M.

“Give me $$ or I…” What alternatives do those players have?

At least they could have been given a heads up…many players finding out on Twitter like the rest of us.

Wonder if Monohan has the unilateral authority to make this decision if the merger goes again the wishes of the membership. It will be interesting.

The producers of the Netflix show Full Swing must have danced an Irish jig yesterday when this news dropped. I CAN’T WAIT TO WATCH NEXT SEASON!!!

We all have bosses. Who does Jay Monahan report to?

It’s always about the money.

Monahan’s boss may be Saudi PIF Governor Yasir Al Rumayyan.

And who’s Yasir Al Rumayyan boss?

Not much different than Lebron and the NBA apologizing to China. That went away.

“It’s always about the money” followed by “if you want to know who’s in-charge just find out who you aren’t allowed to criticize”.

There’ll be a large dust-up but it’ll blow over when money is distributed.

As someone who doesn’t watch golf, I had no idea there was even this kind of tension lol.

And I read the news regularly.

Damn.

I think people’s memories are short.

People forget. Life moves on.
