Ph.D. in Economics/Public Policy from top U.S. Grad Schools

Hi

I'm planning to apply for Ph.D. in Economics/ Public Policy to all the top U.S. Grad schools.

I have a high first class Bachelors in Economics from Delhi University in India and MSc. Economic History from London School of Economics. I also have 2 years of consulting and research experience in India, post my Masters.

The Bachelors is a 3-year course and the Msc from LSE is 1 year. What are my chances of making it to the top schools in US? How should I begin my application process? How should I research and select universities?

Need some advice.

Thanks.

First, if you have a subject in economics/public policy in mind, search for schools with strengths in that area. Then, study for, and take, the GRE while, at the same time, looking for letters of recommendation, be it LSE profs or your employers.

OK, a high first class is like a 3.8+ in the US, but chancing for PhD programs is rather murky since letters of recommendation hold a lot of weight.
