Hi,
I’m currently 21 in my 2nd in pharmacy school and I’m planning on attending medical school after. I’m in a early Assurance program so (2 years of undergrad and 4years of grad). Would med schools look at my 2 years of undergrad or would they look at my pharmacy gpa instead given my crunch years I am in?
There are tons of posts on SDN for your question. Generally consensus is finish your PharmD first, work couple years (also use this time to take any pre-requisites that MD schools require) then apply to MD.
Interesting enough, saw one relative’s son thinking the same thing as you…but haven’t seen anything in reverse (MD to PharmD)… wonder why?
Probably because there is very little value-added for a MD to earn a PharmD after completing residency and fellowship.
aka spending a lot more time and money to work towards a paycut.
There are people who need alternatives when they are asked to leave medical school who need to find alternative professions.
Thanks, but can I use my pharmD gpa to apply for medical school? I don’t have a bachelors given the 2 years cut straight into pharmacy school.
Also as far as debt, I have a dont have much loans, most are covered by scholarships.

- Anything done other than in high school, irrespective of your program (6 years), every course done in in any community college or even dual credit done at high-school with affiliation with any local college, UG, Postbac or Graduate must be reported in AMCAS.
- The way it works, there are 2 rows, one for any courses done in Graduate level and other one Cumulative undergraduate. In cumulative undergraduate there are 6 sub sections, HS, fresh, soph, junior, senior, postbac UG.
- Your 1st and 2nd will go against Fresh, Soph rows. What is not clear to me is if the 3 to 6 years of integrated program courses comes under which of the rows.
Absolutely your first 2 years of your current program will be looked at it and your GPA should be good there too.
when I took grad school courses as an undergrad they showed up in the respective year so I imagine that at least some of the pharm coursework will show up as undergrad work but I’m really not sure.

You should call or email AMCAS and ask a representative.

IIRC, 0-6 PharmD students aren’t awarded a bachelors until after they have completed 1-2 years of their professional education. If that’s true, then your undergrad plus any coursework taken prior to receiving a bachelors would be considered. But that’s just my a WAG. Call AMCAS and ask.
In addition , the premed advisory in your pharmacy school may be of help. They could help to separate your classes into different categories for med school purposes.
