Is July 26 08:20am a good time? or is it late?

Mine is July 23, at 4:00 PM.
I think they are both late because Phase II starts on July 15. That would make our dates eight and eleven days after the start, but I don’t know.

Don’t worry. I’m going to be a Junior and my phase II is on the 30th of July. :(

How does this work? I would have thought juniors would have phase II before freshmen…

Mine is July 23 at 2pm.

Friday 07/23/10 12:40 PM

where do you find out your phase II time? thanks!

On bearfacts. Log onto bearfacts for students, then select ‘registration’ on the top bar and then the ‘telebears appointment’ at the top right. It will list your appointments.

thanks! i noticed it is also on telebears.berekeley.edu under home…

Mine’s Friday July 23rd 5:00pm…could be better, could be worse

Mine’s 22nd so I guess it’s comparatively good? I thought it was crappy at first, I mean, it started on the 15th! D:

how many units can we sign up for during phase two?
so for phase I it was 10 units maximum. Is it 16 more units in phase two? or is it up to 16 units total?

It’s up to 20.5 units total.

I just checked and my appointment is July 22 at 4:40pm

Friday 07/23/10 10:00 AM

Dang nabbit I knew I shouldn’t have ditched half of CalSO!

Oh my, I might get killed if I tell you my time.

It’s basically – the more units you have, the earlier your time. This includes AP and transfer units.

Don’t worry: people with more units aren’t going to be competing for the same classes as you are. The waitlist is scary, but everything will work out in the end!

^^^ That didn’t work for my son. He took 13 AP classes and has a ton of units but got July 23rd at 10:00. How does that work?

It also depends on when those units are registered - at the point when the telebears times are assigned, it uses what units have been recorded by that date. Slots are determined by the future telebears class level (e.g. freshman, etc) and then within the level by units, except for those in special categories like disabled students program or athletes. There also is an element of randomness in the time given out. Some times you do better than others, some times worse.

Entering freshmen have special timing based on CalSO and perhaps other factors in part because the process of reviewing transcripts, evaluating classes for credit and entering AP scores is something that happens slowly across spring and summer time. The spring semester appointments and all his future appointments will be based on class level and units.

Oh, I see. I find this whole thing so confusing. I feel sorry for you guys having to figure all of this out! It’s good to know that at least those units will come in handy eventually. Thanks for the clarification.

Don’t worry about the confusion level - while it is all a bit strange and fairly convoluted, any student that has what it takes to succeed at Cal (in this case, to not flunk out) has what it takes to figure everything out. May not happen right away, but by the end of the first year only the parents that remain confused (they don’t live it).

The AP units don’t count until they get processed. Hence, for the first semester, it’s always late. However, since he won’t be competing for the same courses, it’s moot. Your son will be looking at a nice Telebears appointment for the spring, though.
