I was just browsing potential PhD programs that would be applicable to a undergrad with a degree in math and I ran across a PhD in finance. Going based off the Stanford admissions suggestions I have basically all the required experience (programming in MATLAB, C++, etc.) as well as the quant coursework by the time I graduate. The problem is, my economics background doesn't extend past an intro level course. Also, most of my research experience comes from quantitative biology, so in that sense, I am a non-trad applicant. How will PhD programs view my application? A lot of the research work can easily translate over into finance, but again it is not finance. Any insight would be appreciated.
