Phillips Academy Andover Summer Session

Has anyone been?
How was it?

Are there any other programs I should consider? I'm thinking about Exeter and Summer@Brown.

What is the social scene like?

whoever you are, you may be a ■■■■■, but you are funny…

its not funny as much as annoying. i think the part where they copied my username is the best part :D

And, sorry I don’t know anything about the summer programs, and my post above was about a removed ■■■■■ post.

I went to the summer camp at Andover. Without a doubt the BEST summer camp I’ve ever been too…made so many friends that I still talk with on Facebook on our group page.

Omg, this is scary.

do you actually do major school work for their summer sessions like essays and stuff? im assuming so i guess…

I know camp starts in 4 days but I have so many questions and I was hoping someone could maybe answer them before camp starts? Sorry if this is alot!

Anyways for 9-12 graders what is the schedule like? How much free time do you have to go downtown?

Do you have an ID for different things like purchasing food in the Den like the regular school year kids do?

What dorms are used during camp? Is Isham Dorm in use?

What is the first day like? I mean sign in and stuff on the schedule I saw there were movies is that mandatory?

Uh finally when you first meet you counselor group are there certain things you have to do? For example do you have to do those introduction games? There’s nothing wrong with them but I think they’re a bit cheesy sometimes.

Thanks!

I went last year to the summer session!
first of all, you have a lot of free time on your hands! Depending on your courses is how much time you have to hang out with friends and go shopping, stuff like that. You have about 5 weekends to head into boston which is plenty of time! You do get an ID, but not for food and stuff. It’s more for getting into the dances and events held by the school. I am not sure how many dorms are used during the summer session, but i know Isham was used. The first day was pretty hectic. I flew into Logan International, so I had to go from terminal B to terminal E. That was tricky, but once your there it is all pretty easy. You hop on a bus and drive to Andover and check in at the hockey rink. You take a photo, get a shirt, and get your classes/schedule. Not too much happens. I don’t know about a counselor group? The college counseling isn’t as intense as it seems. You don’t meet with your counselor at all because you don’t really have one!

I hope you have a blast and this answered all your questions!

My friend’s child, they are originally from UK but living in Indonesia where the kids attend an American school, was not admitted to Andover for the regular school year. The parents decided to send him for the Andover summer program in hopes that it will be an “in” and that the school will admit him for the regular school year…Is this a tactic that has ANY hope or working?

I should also note that they submitted the regular school year application along with his brother’s. The brother is bright but his grades don’t reflect that - he gets into a bit of trouble. So, they suspect the brothers might have been looked at as a “package” on the application and again hope the first child will be able to differntiate himself in the summer program.

“packages” and twofers can sometimes help.

I think it helps more at private day schools where they feel they are filling spots in two classes with just one family.

When my son applied to some elite day schools, they inquired whether my daughter who was two years younger would apply at the same time. We hadn’t thought of it, trying to look at each child as individuals and “fit” but some schools do look for “package deals.”

chocomoomoomilk9: Thanks so much for answering my questions! Just one more about the counselor group sorry! What do you mean you don’t have a counselor group? Also when you have to go to breakfast and stuff can you just leave by yourself since you don’t have really have a counselor?
