I've never actually met Dr. Curtis, since she primarily works as a Spanish teacher and I never had anything to do with Spanish, but from what I hear she is fabulous as a teacher and as a person, and I have never heard a bad thing about her; which is very rare since usually people mentioned at least ONE bad thing about someone. Most people were not surprised when she was named the new head at Deerfield, they all thought she was very suited for the job.

Is anybody here on Andover's math team or its computer team?

tokenadult, I am actually on both the math team and the computer team.

dxu33, did you ask this question on the other andover thread? See my post there.

That's good to know. I'm pretty familiar with the math competition world (that is, I know the names of most of the major high school contests), but other than what I hear from Texas137 I really don't know much about computer competitions and activities. What are some of your favorite computer team activities? My son is composing emails to Ms. Litvin (she's the computer team coach, isn't she?) and to Mr. Barry (the math team coach, right?) tonight to indicate his interest in those programs at Andover.

Do you do sports in addition to math team and computer team? One big draw for us about the boarding prep schools is that they seem to have schedules that allow piling on lots of intense extracurricular activities. The main draw is their rigorous day-by-day academics, including perhaps the only chance to get a better math course than my son is already in in this state.

Best wishes for a great season on your teams.

The computer competition we do is ACSL, but members are encouraged to participate in independent contests as well, such as USACO.

I do XC and indoor and outdoor track. The school recognizes that most people do both EC's and sports, and so clubs usually meet after 6 pm. There is no problem about overlapping acitivities, I find ample time for academics, EC's and sports.

If you have any more questions feel free to ask. Good luck to you and your son.

(in response to previous comments)
it's really easy to get to boston from exeter
there's a train stop walking distance from campus & it's about an hour to north station

It is somewhat of a long ride though. Even people from Andover don't go to Boston that much. Maybe once in a few weeks, but not too much. And there are also some rules and regulations about being that far from campus.

I am a sophomore and looking to apply to Exeter academy for 11th grade, my primary strengths are the Math Olympiads and Political savviness. I have won awards in debate, model congress, moot court, and will do mock trial and model un this year, expect to win awards, and am most of all willing to adapt and learn.

here are my sophomore plans, http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/999819-i-am-dedicated-want-know-if-college-would-agree-not.html

please advice, i am not a prodigy but i am extremely bright and am creative in both sciences and humanities. I love reading, blogging and public speaking. not to mention my technical skills and passion for video editing.

Most of all, i try incorporate my various passions together, whether it’s political videos, or economics and statistics or chem and physics together, :D

am I qualified for E/A or Andover? and which one would be better for my ‘fit’

Hi! I would really like to go to Andover, but I am nervous I may not make it…! Could you give me tips on how I could be a shoo in for Andover?

Does that mean that I have more chances getting accepted to Andover than Exceter??

PS: Im applying for next year
10th grade now, 11th grade next year.

Just FYI, this thread is 5 years old

I’m a freshman looking to apply for tenth grade in andover and have a few questions

1)I go to a prep school now. Its admission rate is thityish percent, and I am above average. Will this help me?
2)I have “strong” interesest in math. I am in ap calc in nith grade, and got top 10% in competions. Is this dedication?
3) do you know how hard it is socially to be a new lower?

^^ Haha yeah. The OP has probably graduated and gone to college by now :)

OP’s probably making $120,000 on Wall Street. :P

What do people at Andover wear?

Is it like every other American high school, with Abercrombie and Fitch and Hollister being the go to brands?

This thread is 6 and a half years old, and was last posted in a year ago. I wouldn’t expect a response.

^ agreed…

Could anybody who’s currently a student at Andover tell me what they did( volunteering, sports, etc) that they put on the Andover app?

Ask that question on prep school admissions!
