don’t you have to be on the list since birth to go to eton?(i heard that was the new rule)

^ something like that… now i think it’s changed a little, but it’s still inaccessible to the average joe. it’s still largely a school for the blue-blooded elite, but who knows? maybe everything will change in 50 years…

@ fraise: it depends on other parts of your application, too… straight B’s definitely aren’t going to help you, especially since a friend of mine was rejected for exeter because apparently her grades weren’t good enough (i think she had 1 B, the rest A’s…she called the admissions office to ask for this, btw)… hmm :/

awww okk thankss. iguess ill get all As in 9th.

xxfraisexx, consider Hotchkiss. It has a large alumni network in the business field. When I went to visit wharton I bumped into 3 Hotchkiss alumni for the hour that I was there simply because I was wearing my Hotchkiss jersey (i did not know these people). I am going to Wharton next year.

Quick question re Andover: Can you take Latin instead of History as a Junior?

exsrch: I’m not sure but I think HIST100 When Strangers Meet is a must for everyone.

Hey Exsrch. Your freshman year–actually every year until you past the requirement, up to a 300 level course or 2 years of a common language (spanish, french, latin) one year of a less common language (german, japanese, russian)–you have to take a language and a history–that history being History 100. Don’t knock the course, it’s a great way to prepare PA juniors for the rigors of US History.

FWIW, 2 years of a less common language and 1 year of a more common one theoretically also satisfies the language requirement. Upper year (11th grade) you don’t need to take history 300…with the understanding that you’ll take it senior year. If you’re not the greatest history student, you may benefit from having an extra year of English courses before attempting it (I didn’t do incredibly in 100 or 200, but after a year off, I did quite well in 300). On the Andover website ([Phillips Academy - Guidelines & Programs of Study](http://www.andover.edu/Academics/TheCurriculum/GuidelinesProgramsofStudy/Pages/default.aspx)), you can read about what’s required and what’s not. Technically, you could take 2 languages and history in 9th grade, but that’s not often done.

That was very helpful. Appreciate your comments!

Head of School Day today…some funny videos about it on the PA Facebook page.

Perfect bright sunny day for Head of School day—I had to drop something off so went in the early afternoon, and lots of kids were strolling along Main St. downtown, some in shorts (though I didn’t think it was that warm).

bump. i rather enjoyed reading this thread

How are the Day Student experiences at Andover with respect to integrating with the Boarding population?

@pulsar I’m a boarding student at Andover and I have tons of day student friends. Boarders and day students are very well integrated.

I approve of this thread.
