How does your grading system work? How do teachers distinguish a 10 and an 11, or a 9 and a 10?

What are the average grades for most preps and do they tell you anything about applicants who are applying for 2010-2011 school year?

Iām not really sure they donāt really publicize them. Iād say it would probably be some where between a seven and a ten. I know a lot of people who have GPAs above a ten but I also know people with GPAs below a seven.

Iām probly going to Exeter! who else is?

Me too, but Iām not 100% sure yet! still waiting on the acceptance letter to comeā¦I think it is taking long because of the heavy rain we recently had.

Wow lindha, itās taking a whileā¦D:

I know they told me it was going to come on friday, and on saturday the mailman didnāt even showed up. Iām still waiting!

i am like 99% sure its the school for me, but i got into andover too. but i think i love exeter a lot more. im going to both revisits though. im pretty decided on exeter :)

I think you should follow ur heart and go to Exeter!!

yes go to exeter!!!

Go to Exeter!!!

What I would do to get in to Exeterā¦

Iād ā¦ never mindā¦ :)

Hey, does anyone have any advice for applying to Exeter or Andover? Any advice for the ssat? Iām still fairly new to the world of boarding schools.
thanks

My advice would be to not to get too obsessed with any school or small set of schools. There are many great schools out there.

My advice is to look at other schools as well, as great as Exeter is.

Definitely look at more than one school. And also you donāt have to finish the application to every school you visit. If you donāt like it, you dont have to finish the application, because one of the biggest turn offs is the amount of time and energy that goes into finishing like 10 applications.

EXETER IS AMAZING. For the right person though. I understand that it is NOT for everyone.

Thanks.
btw, I got my results back today.
Math-99%
Reading-92%
Verbal-94%
These are national %ile estimates.
The following are my SSAT precentiles and scaled scores.
Iām only giving estimates of my scores, for privacy, although i did get perfect on my math section.
Math-99% scaled score:800
Reading-55% scaled score:660
Verbal-80% scaled score:710
Overall-85% scaled score:2170
I should really set my goals lower than Exeter or Andover. Any comments?

Donāt be discouraged by your scores. You did great! Iād suggest retaking it though so that you can boost your reading+vocab grades. Honestly, your reading is what really brought you down. So just work on that, and youāll see a dramatic increase in total score. Like from an 85 to a 95!

Good luck.

Your scores arenāt bad at all, really, but because reading was especially low, I would suggest retaking if you can afford it. Something that helps me is reading one paragraph, and then looking at the questions to see which ones I can answer while the material is still fresh in my mind. Then rinse and repeat :)
