So I applied for Phillips Exeter. Yeah, I know, how cliché, but I really am passionate about a higher education and this school seems like the best fit for me. One of the sites the admissions office uses to track your materials is called Lion Links, and it tells you when they have received each piece of you application. Right now, everything, including my recommendations, school report, test scores, etc. have been received. Everything except for my essays. I sent my essays to the given email on January 14, a day before the deadline, so I know they weren’t late. I’ve double checked the email I sent it to, so I know that’s correct. But it still doesn’t say they received it on the website. So my question is, has Lion Links received anyone else’s essays? Are other people having the same problem as I am? I’m sort of panicking because what if they didn’t receive them and my application doesn’t count, then I will be devastated. Please let me know if they’ve received yours, and if so, how long it took for them to acknowledge it. And if not, let me know too because them I know I’m not alone. Thanks!
This same question is asked on a thread below. This is common.
When my child applied, it took Exeter a month of back and forth for them to “find” all the items submitted and only after telling the applicant and recommenders and parents that we hadn’t send in things on time (despite having confirmation of receipt). Last year, they notified admitted students before March 10. It seems they have some issues in their process. I am fine with issues since it’s a difficult time and everyone is no doubt overworked. I was not fine with the attitude of admissions staff on the phone and their blaming the applicant or recommenders for what were their issues. They never acknowledged that after hassling us for missing info for a month, they discovered they had it all along, that it had been on time, and that being rude to a student over the phone for what was their oversight was inappropriate. Hopefully, they will perform better this year.
I’m sorry to hear that. I would think that such a prestigious school would be more accommodating. Then again, like you said, they receive thousands of applicants, so I can see how they might get overwhelmed. Thanks for your reply, at least now I won’t be so stressed out. But I do hope that things work out better this year! Hopefully I won’t be put in the same situation as your child, and if I am, here’s to hoping the admissions office is a bit nicer.
In my opinion it would be far better if the use a common system like gateway to prep instead of trying to collect all the items on their own.
gungablue: where did your child end up going? Arre they happy? Just curious to hear beyond pre application (how it goes afterwards)
MAandMEmom - I agree, that may make things easier. But obviously, they are set on their current ways and I don’t see signs of change anytime soon
I agree @grant1509 my daughter and I chuckled as we submitted our stuff that they are Exeter and students will do what they have to do to apply.
@Center – things turned out just fine. The applications and the wait for March 10 is painful, but worth it. As far as school my child attends, the username is a hint as it refers Andover’s mascot. I was on this site for at least a year or two before I realized that PelicanDad had something to do with a specific school. I thought he just liked pelicans
Gungablue: LOL. I actually knew that was the Andover mascot creature. There are so many odd names in here I guess I don’t really pay close attention----they just don’t register! Thanks !!!
Don’t worry about it. I called Friday because I noticed that my student essays weren’t showing up even though I obviously submitted and the lady I spoke simply told me to resend them to her email and all was solved. And in my encounter, she was really nice about it. So yeah, call them and you’ll probably get things sorted out
Thanks for all the help everyone! And thanks for the advice. It finally says my essays were received so now all that’s left to do is wait. I will stay active in the threads, and like many other people, I will let you know if I get in on March 10. Best of luck to you all, and I hope everything works out okay. Here’s to March 10!
