I had my math teacher mail his print-out recommendations form to Exeter about a week before winter break, but it doesn't show up under LionLinks!! I'm getting worried that the mail got mixed up because if it did, I have no way of getting my math teacher to rewrite that one. Does Exeter not accept paper recommendations if you initially marked on the application that your teacher would do an electronic form, or does it just take super long for Exeter to receive things by mail??

Do the math. Take the number of applicants (something like 2000 or more) times the number of pieces of mail/applicant. Each envelope needs to be opened, added to the right file, and the database updated to reflect its arrival. Estimate the amount of time this takes per item. Divide by the number of people in the admissions office…

What do you get? Besides a lot of dead tree, you get a lot of time before the paper blizzard starts to diminish. So no concern is yet in order…

phew…I’m not the only person with this problem. My teachers mailed their recommendations all before the break and none of them have showed up yet (even though Hotchkiss already processed my graded essay that I mailed even later…)

In our case LionLinks doesn’t show all the parts of the application, but over a week ago we did receive an email informing us that it was complete and in for review. Check your email carefully, including spam filters.

PaperIdeas–would you please tell me where I can find Hotchkiss’ tracking data? Thanks.

@eileenbeth: I think that Hotchkiss sends periodic emails showing you what parts of your application they have. They sent me one a couple of weeks ago and they’ll probably send another pretty soon if you didn’t get one.

@PaperIdeas: Have your recommendations shown up on LionLinks yet? I logged on today and found that they received my graded essay & student essays, but they still haven’t received my math recommendation, which was sent earlier…

Yes, still some of my recs have not shown up.

Ok, some of the items for my son’s stuff got logged for Exeter today. Interestingly, this was not all of what was sent from his school (at the same time) last Saturday, but included the school report and transcript, but missing the math and english recommendations that I’m told would have been in the same envelope. It may be that they usually expect recommendations to come in separately, and therefore they got put in such a pile to handle later. So they are making progress.

A post card from Andover arrived today saying that his file was complete (and the information went from his school to Andover at the same time as to Exeter).

Again, your mileage will vary, but it’s way too soon to panic. Just keep an eye on it…

So it sounds like Exeter is digging out of the paper barrage, but isn’t finished yet.
