Philosophy, Politics and Economics

Anyone thinking about majoring in PPE? and is better than double majoring in poli sci and economics? Jus wonderin..

I would also like to know this…

I’m not a PPE major and don’t know much about PPE, but I would advise you that if you one to study at least of those 3 subjects in depth, then do a major on it.

I’m doing the equivalent at Yale! Though in New Haven, we like to call it “Ethics, Politics and Economics”.

@Eating Food: You’re still a senior… You’re not actually at Yale yet… ?

this is correct…?

Your post pretty much says that you’re already studying at Yale, and you -and your fellow Yalies- call PPE, EPE… No offense, but you’re not even there yet, so your post is a bit ambigious and … weird.

i fail to see how that post was ambiguous, weird, or… whatever

anyway, ppe is pretty good stuff but it is a survey of each subject rather than huge depth in any one, as mentioned before

a lot of ppe students plan to go to law school

Oke, wait, I am sorry, I read your post again, and… just nevermind haha

(Just ignore the stupid ESL international)

PPE or EPE is a bit lightweight- geared towards people who wouldn’t do well in standard econ which in turn is geared towards people who wouldn’t do well in math & science.

economics is not geared towards those who would fare poorly in math and science

and ppe / epe are not geared towards those who would fare poorly in economics alone

are you implying that economic theory is a less worthy field of study than molecular biology? or game theory, which is covered in ppe, a less worthy field of study than galois theory?

Well… they’re certainly easier.

doesn’t mean they’re for dumber people, though

What type of work is given in the courses? Is it a lot of reading of historical pieces or what? Under “thematic electives,” can you take ANY course in philosophy, political science, or econ?

My son graduated yesterday in PPE. It was the 5th or 6th most popular major in the college. He refers to it as a ‘triple minor.’ At one point he considered changing to Econ or Poli Sci, but he really loved the eclectic range of classes and all that went with it. He did a 2nd major in History. His PPE focus and his honors thesis were in Poli Sci.
