schools w/ a major in philosophy, politics, and economics

ok, so i was just flipping through the pomona college catalog and i found this major, philosophy, politics, and economics (ppe), that i absolutely love and totally fits my interests. does anyone know of any other schools that might have a major like this, or similar to this? any responses would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

I have a friend majoring in Ethics, Politics, and Economics (all one major) at Yale... so... Yale.

penn offers ppe through the college...

wikipedia is your friend:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosophy,_Politics,_and_Economics

Duke offers a Certificate in PPE (sort of halfway between a major and a minor). It's quite popular.

http://www.poli.duke.edu/ppe/index.html

UNC Chapel Hill offers it as a minor.

Denison University offers a major in PPE

http://www.denison.edu/departments/ppe/

UPennsylvania offers PPE:

http://www.sas.upenn.edu/ppe/

Also, many colleges offer students the option of designing their own interdisciplinary programs like PPE, so don't count those out of the running either--especially the LACs.

Just an idea.

Harvard calls that major Social Studies...but it is philosophy, politics, and economics.

okay...wow. I'm so glad I found this thread. I had no idea something like this existed and it sounds like exactly what I want to do! I'm so excited now! and sorry...this has absoultely no meaning for this thread, I just thought I would share...

UT-Austin, Juniata, Notre Dame, Birmingham Southern college, and Oxford in England also have such a major set up. Although, as mentioned above, many schools will let you self-design an interdisciplinary major such as this, so look for schools with strong departments in all three areas.

Oxford does.

Check ClaremontMcKenna -- my DS2 was looking at that program.

has Political Economy, which is similar, though not identical. check the syllabus of the junior year required course, for example:

http://www.williams.edu/politicaleconomy/301

Williams also has an interesting concerntration in Leadership Studies that may be of interest.

Amherst has law, jurisprudence and social thought, also an interesting (though slightly different) interdisciplinary major.

If you're into Pomona, these two schools will probably interest you as well.

wow! thanks guys! if anyone else knows of any other schools with something similar, please post em here!

with your profile Amherst and Williams, I predict, would both be VERY excited to enroll you or at the very least you'd be an extremely strong candidate. You should definitely check both out (and Swarthmore as well which has killer econ) given your interests and activities. If interested in liberal arts colleges, you have a real shot at any in the top echelon. You should also check out Questbridge, if it's not too late to apply for that, you can get tons of financial aid and you are the type of person they love -- first generation, tons of community involvement, etc. (although again, if you got into Amherst and Williams I think fin aid at those places would, for someone with your background, cover a huge percentage of college costs, perhaps all costs, even in lieu of Questbridge).

really? thanks ephman, you're my new favorite CCer! hehe. and i was invited to apply to the questbridge thing, but i just couldnt bring myself to finish six essays in time for the deadline...too painful...sigh
