Phishing Scam Sent to son's UD e-mail

Have your students watch out for a phishing scam e-mail sent to their UD e-mail account. Yesterday my son received, and responded to, an e-mail claiming to be Bank of America. The e-mail said that an unauthorized person tried to gain access to his account and it gave him a link to click on to "verify" his personal information. Well, he fell for it, even though he does not have a Bank of America account, his account is with PNC.

They asked for his bank account #, password, pin, ss#, date of birth, address, phone#, and he gave it all. We spent the entire day yesterday notifying every financial institution he has an account with, as well as UD's financial aid office, and then requesting a fraud alert be placed on his credit report.

I would assume that if they got a hold of my son's UD e-mail, that they gained access to many more, so alert your kids to be on the look out.

My son got the same thing!

handemom - I assume your son was “aware” enough to figure out what was going on? My son received quite an education yesterday that didn’t come from the classroom!

My D got that, too. Scary.

My D got the same e-mail yesterday. She forwarded it to me and I told her to ignore it because we don’t have any Bank of America accounts. Is there any way to notify the school so that they know this is happening?

Just checked with my dd, she also received the email yesterday and deleted it.

She also noticed it was sent from a PSU.edu email address!
