So I have 2 schools with deadlines TODAY. 2 of my 3 writers have submitted their letters, but the 3rd has not. I don't think hes doing this just to mess with me because he's already submitted the letters for about 5 other schools.

He sent an email to me 2 days ago saying he couldn't find the links to submit the letters. I re-sent him the links an hour later. I sent him another reminder last night that the letters are due today. Still hasn't submitted them.

Since I don't think those schools will accept late letters, the only option I think I have left is to phone call him. Should I do that?

If thats true, thats a big relief for me.

But one of the schools says this: “All application materials MUST be received by this date in order to be considered for … general admission”. The other school says “…prepare them and submit them by December 15. …All letters of recommendation and supporting documents should be received in the Department by December 15”

If 2 out of 3 is in, let it go. It’s generally good enough for the adcoms. Usually the third letter, unless downright awful, doesn’t make a huge difference if the first two are solid and good.

but my 3rd LOR is the strongest one. For my recent apps I just submitted last week, my 3rd LOR still hasn’t been submitted yet.

Yes, call him/her. Phones aren’t nearly as scary as many believe, and unless the writer is especially ornery, most professors won’t mind a phone reminder. I was in a similar situation and did not hesitate to call multiple times, as he eventually admitted to having technical difficulties. I eventually went over to his home with my laptop in tow (just in case it was his comp causing the issue) and helped him get it in two days late.

For your own peace of mind, you can go ahead and call the admissions people at your school(s) to make sure they don’t mind a letter a few days late. From what I’ve heard since my experience, as long as you get it in before the committee meets, there’s no harm. Mine was for Harvard, who I imagine are just looking for reasons to cut people, and the person I spoke with assured me that having it in within a few days would have absolutely no effect on my app.

Good luck!

surprisingly, I send him a reminder email about 2 hours ago, and I just found out that he submitted the letters just 30 min ago! unfortunately, it might still be too late if those committees reviewed the apps 1-2 days after the deadline

I can almost guarantee that committees aren’t reviewing applications 1-2 days after the deadline. If your deadline is December 15, I’d be willing to bet my stipend that the admissions committee wasn’t planning on reviewing the applications until after they returned from the winter/holiday break. At some places the winter break isn’t even over (my university doesn’t officially get back until January 18).
