Phone calls

I've received 3 phone calls so far from UNC, but unfortunately was not able to pick up any of them. A student left a voicemail on the first call to congratulate me on my acceptance, and ask if I had any questions.
The other 2 calls did not leave a voicemail. Do you think that those were to follow up on the first call, or was it for something else?

Probably a follow up on the first call.

Chances are they just didn't want to seem like they were hounding you. I was with the group that was making the first round of calls earlier in the semester. Don't worry, about 75% of the people were call either aren't homes, go to school away from home (Math and Science, etc) or they are caught off guard and can't think of any questions off the top of their heads.

If you do have questions, you can PM me with whatever.

I'm so angry I don't get to do that again this semester! I helped out with the phone a thons last year. It's really fun to me to talk to potential Carolina students. Some of the people we call are still deciding, which is kind of fun because I remember being in their shoes. Other students have already matriculated so the conversation is just... super fun. Then SOMETIMES moms like to pick up the phone and start asking questions. Moms are freaking crazy, but also endearing.

Of all the calls I made, only one went really poorly. "I have little to no interest in going to Carolina. Sorry. And you mispronounced my name." Upon asking him where he planned to go... take a guess. Haha.

Anyway, I said this last year and I'll say it again,

these are REAL CAROLINA STUDENTS, don't be afraid to ask them questions about what their life is like!! Ask them what they were for Halloween!! stuff like that!!

as always to everyone deciding you can always PM me!

Thanks everyone, you were right. I got another call (& a voicemail this time), and it was a welcome call. :)

By the way, I really appreciate that UNC takes the time to personally call admitted students (which itself seems like a very time consuming task), and even do follow-ups… even if I’m not able to catch the calls on time. It makes it seems like UNC really would like me to go to their school, and that I’m not simply a number.

I don’t know if many other colleges do the same, but I know that the other school I applied to, UF, didn’t seem to care quite as much.

Thank you so much,
-maybe a future tarheel
