So I just had a phone interview with a Brown alumna and I’m not exactly sure if it went well.
From the start, when she emailed me, she said it would be a short twenty minute interview but it was only 14 minutes. I was a bit upset about that, because she sounded really eager to get off the phone and I’m nervous about what that means. She said that she only did five other interviews and the questions she asked me were a bit open ended and I was hoping to get more specific with them but never got the chance. Also, when I answered the phone she kind of jumped right into it and started talking about herself and it was all very rushed. I sort of felt like she had better things to do and she was trying to finish this up. Is that really bad? The interview doesn’t matter too much, does it?

My interview was kind of similar although it wasn't over the phone. It was only 40 minutes long and I didn't really have the chance to say any of the things I wanted to. My interviewer didn't speak English very well so I automatically made all my answers really short and simple so she could follow. I feel pretty uncertain about it.

I'm sort of in the same boat as you. I don't think the interview plays a huge role in admissions but it is still a part. :(

Don't worry about the interviews! You did them, and that's that. I don't think they are all that important in the whole process. They are all so different, there is very little consistency among all the interviewers and the circumstances of the interviews. They can't count for much. Relax, do something nice for yourselves, and the time will pass! You'll know soon enough...

i wouldn't take it personally or anything. you did what you could do. i don't think the fact that your interview was 14 minutes long is any sort of detriment to your application.

It's tough to do a phone interview, it's so impersonal. I was lucky enough to meet with someone face-to-face and have an excellent discussion. Still, I doubt that the interviewer will criticize you in her feedback to Brown if she was in a rush/had something better to do.

how were ur ed decisions? they told me that my app was incomplete and that when i sent in all my materials, i'd be considered for regular decisions. that kinda ****es me off a lot b/c they never said anything about it beforehand, which i would imagine would be something they would do. i mean wouldnt they tell you if u needed to send something in? i wonder if thats just a polite way of saying "no" =P
