Never seen one! Are those common in your area?

We had one a couple years ago, so it’s running through this particular family.

Those are beautiful! We used to have albino twin deer in one of our City parks. One ran across younger S’ soccer during practice! I know one was hit by a car on the highway. Not sure what happened to the other. I’ve never seen spotted ones though!

Pics from Shenandoah National Park on Sunday. The wildfire is now up to 3300 acres and has moved inside the park. Started as a small brush fire in Syria, VA (near Madison) and has been very difficult to fight. It hasn’t rained in months, the mountains are rocky and steep so bulldozers aren’t working well to create firebreaks (and the fire has gone through them in a couple spots). They’re also dropping water and chemicals.

Big Meadows (Mile Marker 50) has the electricity shut off to protect firefighters, they are running on generators and are now closing trails on the east central side of the park.

H and I were there over the weekend – Skyline Drive is still open, but it’s very smoky. The trail directly across the street from where we hiked Sunday is now closed (Mill Prong, if anyone is familiar). Wouldn’t go hiking Big Rag right now. A couple of historical buildings are at risk. Have a couple friends in the Madison area and it’s getting dicey.

Bottom pic is 10 miles north of Big Meadows.

There’s a big one near us as well, just across the NC border, 4k acres so far. The smell/smoke has been pretty strong since Sunday

My beautiful state.

WaPo had an article today on the large number of fires in Appalachia, inc the big NC fire. We need rain!

We get beautiful fall sunsets in San Diego especially during Santa Ana conditions. I went with D2 to the barn yesterday so she could ride the horse she is leasing and it was lovely.

The Star of India set sail this weekend for the first time since 2018, commemorating its 160th birthday. It only sails once every five years. For the special Veterans Day weekend events, it was joined by the Bill of Rights, San Salvador, Californian, and the Hōkūleʻa. The last is a historic Hawaiian voyaging canoe conducting a four year circumnavigation of the Pacific.

Tried some art yesterday. I’ve been seeing watercolor videos on tiktok so thought I’d get off social media and give it a go. Tried some easy flowers that I saw on one of the video tutorials and it was a disaster. So I ordered some good brushes and paper and tried a different subject (I couldn’t paint long thin plant stems due to shakiness). This worked out much better but watercolors are hard! The bird is from my daughter’s birth province in China. I’m going to frame it and give it to her for Christmas.
