Facebook memories from 11 years ago of the spring flower show at the Garfield Park Conservatory. What a treat those shows were late in a cold, snowy winter.
Since there were 6 of us and we wanted to explore more than the typical areas to get a feel for the island in case we come back someday, taking our own (rented) vehicle was definitely less expensive. The jitneys would be terrific if one were solely going to X for the day - no doubt there. We actually discussed that option if we return in the future.
I remember driving up there in October thinking I wouldn’t want to be driving up that winding road during a snow storm. Hope you have enough snow to make it good skiing.
Taos is one of my favorite places to reset and recharge. Thanks for sharing your photos. Safe travels to Colorado tomorrow.
This was our first trip to Taos and we will definitely be back. We really loved the vibe of the town.
Woke up to a winter wonderland this morning. My daughter’s college unfortunately canceled classes after hers started, so I got to drive in it twice so far.
Snagged a pic of H and DIL working remotely today. 'Tis tough having to work in such conditions, no? But it beats working back home this time of year (for us). H tells people he’d rather work remotely and enjoy the view for a month than just take a week or two vacation. When they were on “lunch break” we all went out snorkeling and saw a nice selection of critters. I love swimming in a nice aquarium.
Is that Lake Washington?
Yes! We call it our “fake ocean.”
Beautiful. I don’t think I could live anywhere that wasn’t close to mountains.
Enjoying your photos. Glad you are all have such a great time. May pick your brain for lodging advice!
No problem. I’m sure others can contribute as well. Just be sure to let us know what you’re looking for as there are options.
Today, for us, was ziplining as the highlight. 2nd time here for us parents. 1st time for youngest and his wife. Love ziplining with such a view! Then we took these two on a tour seeing around the island.
Today we went whale watching out of Lahaina (Maui) - on a raft for 2 hours - I stopped counting at 30. At one point we had 3 whales right along side and under us, I literally was hanging over the side of the raft with my camera thrust into the water “hoping” I’d capture something - this is a frame from the video I shot
Creekland, I also collect pics of funny signs in our travels!
We snowmobiled into our remote cabin this weekend. I sat and looked at the view for awhile. The sky was gray, but when I looked down and then back up, it had transformed into this spectacular sunset.
It’s really quite challenging getting to our place in the winter but it’s worth it.

Anybody recognize what this fish is? We’re at a loss. It followed us for about an hour or more yesterday snorkeling at Brewer’s Bay in St Thomas. It literally was in front of our mask or next to our face going from sand to grass to reef and back - quite a long distance as we’re not just “shore” snorkelers. But getting back to our condo, we can’t identify it off our Caribbean fish guide, nor did the dive shop recognize it, and there weren’t any others out there at that site. We did have 2 similar size fish adopt us at two other sites - one at each site (not same color). It still doesn’t help us with identification and this is the best pic we got.
ETA: Fish identified - she’s a juvenile Yellow Jack. She’s likely to get a lot bigger assuming she doesn’t get eaten herself while she’s small.
