If we are sharing paintings here’s one I did from when we hiked the Macelhose trail in Hong Kong. It was a wonderful hike. I had no idea that Hong Kong was not all skyscrapers.
A student drew this for H during one of his first years of teaching 30 years ago. The child was 8. He had less than zero training and support. Rather, he was neglected and abused and opened up to H over their Mutual love of comics and superheroes.H went to court on his behalf.
H tried to help him best he knew how. We were young twenty somethings ourselves with no resources and no internet. H’s friend was an art teacher so he tried to help him some. The kid even had created a whole line of super hero comic characters on his own.
Sadly, the system got him and he is now in prison. But what kicks me even more is that ten years later I met online a person who was an illustrator for DC comics. If he had only been born 10 years later, what his life might have been. His story will probably haunt me forever.
What an amazing artist and chilling story. I could barely hold a pencil at 8. That is insane talent.
I know it. The story makes me tear up even now. H and I weren’t much more than kids ourselves. I have zero art talent and was impressed then. Once I had kids and could see what most kids’ art looks like at that age, I was blown away. It kills me now we didn’t help him more, but we just didn’t know how back then. You wonder how many more are out there like that.
I’ve taught painting classes to kids. That kind of raw talent is rare. What a shame.
Greetings from Rabat, Morocco. Had a free morning before meetings so took a stroll in Hassan Tower neighborhood:
Hassan Tower (interesting history - look up if interested)
Mohammed V mausoleum
Incomplete Hassan Tower columns
Something modern - Royal Theater
Rabat old city in the background
I know that many on here are tired of winter, but since we live in Southern California and H and I love to ski here are a couple of pictures from the past few days spring skiing at Mammoth in the Eastern Sierra Mountains. D1, her bf and their husky joined us. I never get tired of the view of the Minarets.
I like the second photo so much that I tried to give a second “like”, but the system wouldn’t let me.
Ah, but did you know you can do the thumbs up (like) AND add an icon as well? I found out by trying. Shhhhhh
That is sensational. Love it so much, especially the sunflowers in the corners. Beautiful.
It’s really stunning. Hugs to you.
Just perfect.
My mom lived was born in Fez and lived some time in Rabat - trying to remember if she was married there…
I’d love to visit Fez and other parts of Morocco. On this occasion, I was only in Rabat - really nice city and such great cuisine. Look forward to returning!
My older son’s graduation ceremony was postponed 2 years ago because of Covid. They finally rescheduled it for the exact day and time his younger sibling is scheduled to graduate in May.
Of course his mom and I are conflicted and agreed to split up with one in attendance at each.
My older just gave me this package so we could toast each other from a distance and gave me a big Thank You! I was blown away.
He is an adult and a classy one at that😀
