Sounds like our cabin. Totally off the grid but with all the amenities. But we have a hard time getting people to visit up there. They freak out when they hear off grid. Their loss.
Really beautiful location @Creekland - how lucky you get extended time to really explore.
Oh man, I’ll definitely be hitting you up for insider tips when we go to PR, hopefully in a couple years. Thanks for the photos, so awesome!
It definitely helps that H can work remotely and set his own hours. Owning the company and the nature of his engineering allows this to an extent. He can zoom in on meetings and just has to watch the time change (PR is one hour ahead of EST until DST kicks in). Today he’s working and I’m catching up online and doing laundry, etc. We prefer to explore on weekdays when things tend to be less crowded. Just like home we take breaks to walk, but instead of it being on our farm, right now those walks are on the beach often with a dip in the water. It’s really good stress relief!
My insider tips will only be helpful for those who like to wander like us. I won’t know a thing about resorts or bars, and not as much about cities - though we will spend a day in Old San Juan at some point. There are also supposedly 220(ish) beaches and several trails or niche spots in PR. We definitely won’t see them all on this trip!
At this point I can say it’s good that DIL and S know Spanish, so if you’re thinking of going away from the various resorts, etc, picking some up is a good idea.
If you like Coconut Mojitos and have a laid back attitude, this is the place to be
That sounds like my kind of trip!
We are off the beaten path types - even if we go to touristy places like Yellowstone, we will work like crazy to avoid crowds

If you are ever planning to spend time in the southwest part of the island, I can recommend an amazing hike similar to those that you are showing. The trail picks up at Playa Tamarindo near Guanica. Have fun in PR!
I don’t know that we’ll be heading to the southwest again on this trip, but I’d definitely like to know what the hike is for future consideration. We were there last week. Some of the pics were from the southwestern most point of Cabo Rojo. Then we followed the southern shore west to Arroyo stopping some along the way - mainly exploring. S/DIL live outside of Aibonito, so some other pics are from that area.
To date, the best Coconut Mojito I had was at Agridulce Bar & Grill in Juana Diaz. The food was terrific there too.
Right now we’re in the north in Loiza. Pretty soon we’ll be heading to Vieques for a couple of days - enough to do a dive and kayak the Bio Bay, though unfortunately the moon will be closer to full when we’re there. Our dates had to be more rigid due to medical boy coming to visit. On a later trip we’ll be sure to get there near a New Moon. Doing the night swim at the one at La Paguera was really neat.
Woke up early, peeked out the window, then got my camera. I believe the bird in the center is a barred owl that I disturbed when I opened the door to my deck.
My son is going to PR in 2 weeks for a Spring Break service trip. I was already jealous and now more so after seeing your pictures. He’s going to love it.
There’s really a lot to see here. We certainly won’t get it all in on this trip, but today we spent half an hour or so investigating this cave (sort of a cave) among other things. It contained artifacts that supposedly go back to about 4000BC up to 100AD when it was excavated. I enjoy pondering about humans throughout the eons looking at many of the same things. It also has quite a few wild bee hives on the ceiling!
There’s also another Ceiba tree to use for photo ops here (National Tree of Puerto Rico).
Finally after ~100 round trips across the Atlantic in the last 25 years I saw the Northern Lights last night over Hudson Bay. It wasn’t an amazing show, more sort of ghostly clouds high in the sky, but really glad I got to see it
The Auroras have been having a field day the last few days. I’ve seen amazing photos from Australia, Stonehenge (UK) and Michigan! My friend & I saw an incredibly interesting program at the Griffith Park Observatory and learned that when the Aurora is firing in one place, the opposite part of the globe is also firing, but because it’s daylight you can’t see it.
This pic from Australia a couple days ago.
One of the granddaughters of my friends in Israel, dressed up for Purim!
in the morning, in the afternoon!
My brother had a river running company back in the day. This is Lodore Canyon on the Green River near Dinosaur National Monument. He is manning the oars in this photo.
