Physician assistant VS. Nursing

So essentially I am a sophomore in college right now studying in the health sciences. My original plan was always becoming a PA but I'm now starting to doubt that decision due to how highly competitive it is. I mainly have my eye on one school due to the fact I can only afford to live at home which lessens my chances even more. I don't want to graduate with a bachelors I can't do anything with if I happen to not get into any PA schools. I've always been interested in nursing as well, it wouldn't just be a back up, but it just doesn't intrigue me quite as much as the PA profession does. I was thinking of switching into a nursing program at a totally different school (since mine only allows initial applicants) to assure I have a solid job in the health field no matter what happens with the PA process. Would it be worth transferring to a totally different university to make this possible? Thank you everyone!

Or make yourself more competitive by becoming an EMT now. PA graduate program admissions people like to see applicants who have been out in the field. Serving as an EMT might give you the boost that you need, as well as gain those hundreds of contact hours that you need.
