Physics 2 Series

I noticed for the Physics 1 series you need to take a lab along with each lecture course, is it the same for the Physics 2 series? Note: It says on the UCSD General Catalog that the preqs for Phys 2AL and 2BL are that you must be concurrently enrolled in Physics2A/2B accordingly, does that mean you can only take these courses along with the lecture, or what?

no. i THINK (please check.) for most majors, you just need to take phys2abc and ONE of the labs. for the second question, i think that's how it works (you must take 2b to be able to take 2bl)

^Some majors require two physics labs. Some only require one lab, for example the B.S. Chemistry. Hopeful is right and you should check your major.

I don't think there is a 2AL. At least, I have never seen it. 2BL is concurrent, 2CL can be after you have taken 2C. 2DL can be taken after 2D, also.

If I'm understanding correctly, you guys are saying that it is possible to take 2B without the lab, but you wouldn't be able to take the lab later, and you can fufill the lab requirements with later physics courses?

Also, I have one more question: I'm forced by circumstance to take 2B, but can I, next quarter, take 2A or say, 4A?

I'd send an email to the physics department for all your questions. I haven't ever dealt with physics related issues, besides what I know (Which is based from reading the catalog a few times)

How are you taking 2B before 2A? And if you already have 2A credit, why are you taking 4A? What is your plan in its entirety, that might clear up a few issues. Like, what is the course sequence you are thinking about.

What is your major? Take the 2 series if you are an engineering major or if you are a physics major take the 4 series or the 2 series (but you have to take a programming course if you take the 2 series). BTW you either take the 2 series or 4 series, i.e. not 2a, 2b, 4c, 2d, 4e. Either 2a-d (and appropriate labs) or 4a-e (and appropriate labs). Why are you forced to take 2b?

I haven't chosen a major yet but I'm looking into science majors (possibly physics). I recieved exemption from the Physics 1A/1B because of AP credit, and I am supposed to have the choice between the Physics 2 and Physics 4 series. Physics 2A is full, and for some reason 4A/4B aren't on webreg for me (possibly because I'm not a declared physics major?), but 2B was open (though I'm on the waitlist for 2BL).

You need to take 2A before you are allowed to take 2B. You also won't be allowed to take 2BL, then.

I guess see if you can get a 2A spot during the first two weeks of school, but I wouldn't be set with the notion you will get a spot.

The 4 series is very structured and the classes are only offered once a year. 4A is only offered winter quarter and 4B is only offered spring quarter.

And you can't take 2B or 4B without taking 2A or 4A.

With both the 2 series and the 4 series, you do not have to take the labs concurrently with the corresponding class. And fyi, the 4 series does not have its own labs, and you would be taking the 2 series labs if you took the 4 series route.

Okay thanks for all the help.
