Is it feasible to take Physics 6C, out of order, before 6A and 6B? I really want to take it with a certain professor and this seems to be the only way I can make it happen.

It’s not feasible because it’s not possible. 6B is a prereq for 6C. And 6A is a prereq for 6B. So you have to take it in sequential order.

There are ways to get around the pre-requisites and take classes out of order (i.e. sign up for 6A for spring, 6B for summer, once fall sign-ups start enroll in 6C, drop 6A (before or after you sign up for 6C doesn’t matter I don’t think), then drop 6B). It’s possible since 6C only has 6B, and not 6A, as a pre-req and once you’re enrolled they can’t really drop you even if you don’t meet the requirements (correct me if I’m wrong). Frankly I don’t remember there being much overlap between the classes or concepts that build on previous knowledge except for maybe the first 2 weeks of 6C (some magnetism stuff) and this depends on what your professor decides to cover anyway. So I want to say you could get by if you’re willing to spend some extra time on the topics that would be considered review for everyone else.

Edit: One tidbit I should mention is you might get a credit deduction on your DPR for taking classes out of order in which case you’d have to go to your counselor to have it removed.

Thanks! I’m not worried about the technicalities of enrollment. I’m just wondering material-wise if the lack of 6B knowledge will affect my ability to succeed in 6C material.

In other words, do you really need to know that much about “Waves, Electricity, and Magnetism” (6B material) in order to succeed in a class that covers “Light, Fluids, Thermodynamics, and Modern Physics” (6C material).

Sounds like it’s do-able

Ur fall enrollment is in the summer so i dont see how dropping 6a in the spring is feasible? dont know…
